2001fp screen door effect

I recently bought 2 dell 2001fp monitors for a work machine..replacing some Sony Lcd's

the first thing i noticed is that solid colors are a bit "grainy" and reading some other threads i seen the term screen door effect which closely describes what i see.. this is over the entire monitors not just areas of the monitors

is this normal? what exactly is the "screen door effect" and how do i fix it?

The Viewsonic VP201 shares the same characteristic. As far as I know there is no way to correct it, but I got used to it within a few days.

As soon as I mentioned screen door effect to Dell they instantly wanted to replace my monitor. They apparently know there is a problem, god knows they have enough referbs for sale on line.

I have gotten used to it to a point.. but it really bugs me on high res pics where I do get close to my mon to see some minor detail.. and i all see is pixels and grain...

i'm going to call dell and see what they say about it..

Well, I'm sure Dell would let you return it, but there's not much they can do about it. It's not like the panel is defective, that's just how that particular panel is. I know I couldn't stand it. I got a 2001FP when they first came out, and I sent it back a couple of days later. Heh, Dell actually offered me $200 back to keep it. Regardless, no amount of money would've let me see past the screen-door effect. Good luck to you.

Well, I'm sure Dell would let you return it, but there's not much they can do about it. It's not like the panel is defective, that's just how that particular panel is. I know I couldn't stand it. It’s not “how the panel is”, it’s the internals of Dell’s monitor. Many other manufactures have used that same panel with no problems. People seem to forget that the panel is only half the equation. Dell just chose to go a different route.

Point me to a 20" 16ms screen that doesn't have the screen-door effect, cause I'd love to know. Not questioning you about it, I'd seriously like to know. From what I have read, all 20" panels based on that same tech exhibit the same problem including the ViewSonic someone else mentioned in this thread. Anyhow, my point was still relevant, because it's the Dell monitor we're talking about, and there's nothing Dell can do about it. If they replace it, it's still gonna be the same.

I was thinking of purchasing this model and I am now starting to think twice. I currently own a Sun Microsystems(sony) 21" CRT and I love it but it is burning my face off. If the 2001FP is 18" to 24" away from your face is the "screendoor" affect a problem?

at about 24" away no i dont notice it.. any closer and its really apprant..

its a really nice monitor and is rather quick no ghosting on black text that i notice at all..

just any white/grey (like this form i'm typing in) you see the black screen effect
