I can get one of these monitors and I'm definently not going to get the 2405fwp. I game a lot and watch the occasional movie. Which one do you guys think I should get?

Thanks :)

Hmm... 19" I dunno, I've always wanted a 20+ inch monitor. I've been on this 17" CRT for ages now.

I just bought the 2005fpw for gaming and movies, literally bought it today I mean. I'll test it out and let you know what I think when I get it.. but like the other person said, Hyundai is good also, just by looking at all those reviews from here and Tomshardware. I couldn't get that because I have to buy from dell for my college computer loan..

But right now dell has those monitors for something like 25% off, plus free shipping until thursday. So that might be a good thing to consider. I think mine came up to $525 total, which is about $200 off.

This is true, but I personally dont' like running my games at 1600x1200, the performance hit is simply to much and I can't tell a real visual improvment over that rez jump anyway. Keep in mind if your coming from CRT, you never really GOT 17", you got more like 15.5 or thereabouts as they measure CRT"s differently then LCD"s. With LCD you TRULY get the size you are paying for.

$400 for a screaming ass 19" from newegg was sold in my book, Dells I feel lack in quality standards and a bit pricey for what you get, but thats just me.

Heres some pics of a guys fresh brand new P90D+

I heard the 2001fp scales quite nicely? I'd be looking at playing games at either 1280x1024 or 1024x768.

I've heard they scale pretty well, but no personal experience on my end. I've seen alot of people with them so Dell must be doing something right, I just researched and concluded the Hyundai will be a better gaming monitor which is my main use but your needs will vary.

The 2001fp is technically a bigger monitor (more screen area, more pixels) and will probably be better if you really need the desktop space for productivity things, rarely watch movies, or play mainly games which will not support widescreen. You might be happier with the 2005fpw if you watch a lot of movies (in wide aspect) or play games which support widescreen modes. World of Warcraft and HL2 both look and play great in widescreen, IMHO.

Yeah, but the problem becomes if your hardware can handle pushing that high of a rez with decent framerates. I honestly find widescreen annoying pesonally, it belongs on my home theatre, not my PC setup.

It's been said that the next edition of Windows will be pushing native widescreen support on the PC (as MS have promoted it on their Xbox). A lot of the latest games support widescreen out of the box, and even if they don't the majority can be edited. I've got a widescreen tv connected to an Xbox: games in widescreen are markedly improved over their 4:3 counterparts as you get a much wider field of view. The same can be said when applied to PC games. But whether you actually "like" widescreen is entirely subjective!

I've currently got a 2001fp, tried out a L90D+ but didn't like it (see my comparison on this forum) and I've now got a 2005fpw on order. I'm hoping to do a write-up by the weekend on the 2005, so if you're prepared to wait I'll let you know :)

EDIT: Just add to that, it's true you need some graphical muscle to push the higher resolutions. The latest gen ATI and Nvidia cards will see you through well enough (x800, 6x00 series), and I know personally that the 2001FP interpolates lower resolution images better than the Hyundai L90D+ does (1024x768 will look better on the Dell, for instance). The Hyundai looks a lot nicer at 1280x1024 of course, but that goes without saying ;)

Understandable, but the price for the 2005fpw is simply to much for me to swallow. This L90D+ was already to much to begin with. I've been gaming on square screens for years, so i'll be fine and I don't feel like messing around with crap to get games working on widescreen, im not a patient person when it comes to my home PC equipment.

I'm gonna give the first part of that a bah! WoW and HL2 were both playable on my Barton 2500+ @ 3000+ speeds and a 128 meg Ti4200. This was at 1680x1050 with detail settings at medium to low. I've since bumped up to a gig of RAM and a 9700np and the same games run great at that res and medium to high detail. And that's NOT a [H]ard system anymore, the Athlon64, $400 video card crowd will do even better. The problem is everyone these days thinks you need to run huge AA and AF with maxed details and still get 100fps for a game to be worth playing.

As for whether or not you like widescreen, that's just personal preference. After a couple months with my 2005fpw, I think regular old "square" screens look goofy.
