At the end of the day I am going to order my first LCD to replace my 19 inch crt. It will be either a dell 2001fp or 1901 fp but I am not sure which one.

I like how the 2001fp has more screen space and a better response time, but I am not sure how good a widescreen is in windows. The 1901fp seems like it is better in windows becasue of this, but if I ever get a mac I may wish that I got the widescreen. Also I do like to play games but I am not a hardcore gamer. The thing is, while the 2001fp may play games better I don't know if i can even play games on it with my gforce ti 4600. Please help me, I keep chaging my mind about what to get. Thanks!

P.S. price is not an issue since i can get a great deal on both. The 1901fp will be around $300 and the 2001fp will be round $500 (when you buy a new dimension 8400).

Get the 2001fp because its bigger and has a 16ms repsonse time. The 1901fp has like a 22 or 23ms rare(i forgot) but its slower.

The 2001FP does a pretty decent job of scaling down to lower resolutions. My 4400 does still handle most things reasonably well though at 1600x1200.

Have you ordered your monitor yet? I just bought the 2001FP and am in love with it.

One of its best features, which speaks to your space-usage in WIndows question, is that the display can be rotated 90 degrees and used in portrait mode. Canthe 1901 do this? I haven't read up on it.
Anyway, I find this method to allow windows space to be used with much better efficiency. If I want to use two screens at once, I use the monitor in portrait mode. For instance, television through my TV tuner windowed at the top with partypoker or a web page or whatever on the bottom.

And with better specs such as response time, I think the 2001fp will satisfy you better in the long run.

i have both and the color is alot better on the 2001FP, also the ghosting on the 19" is horrible.

2001fp has a slight screendoor effect but i guess no lcd is perfect. i keep it about 18 inches back from the edge of my desk and I cant see the screendoor at all from that distance. definatly get the 2001 over the 19"

I'm loving my 2001FP, best investment into my PC since I first started buying LCDs.

Thats good to hear. I just ordered one last night! can't wait to get it...

i will probably order it today as the coupon expires tommorrow. I looks like I should get the 2001 fp, but has anyone tried the 1901fp for gaming. Is the response time that bad?

The difference in price between the two isn't that much. And seeing that you can choose between the two, why not go for the bigger, newer screen. People just love this screen and would marry it, if they could :p .

So I would say, choose the bigger and 'faster' screen.

The 19" is also very good, but if you can choose....what the heck..give yourself a treat :D

put it this way while playing farcry on the 1901 for 10 seconds, i was going to literally puke from the blurryness.

i guess but how do you guys like using a widescreen? This is the only thing that is worrying me? I don't want to use it in portait mode, so what do you think?

I have the 2001FP (just recieved it this past weekend)

I absolutly love it. It is my first LCD, and I came from a Sony Trinatron 18 inch CRT.

No ghosting in Far Cry, Doom 3, UT2004 (Demo) and City of Heroes.
1600x1200 is awsome too :) Plus, the monitor is VERY slick looking. I am debating a second and going dual monitors.

Customer support is wonderful! (I have a pixel which is always on, and they are sending me a new monitor, 2nd day buisness delivery)

What do you mean by widescreen? The Dell 2001FP is a 4:3 ratio monitor (16x12 inches) like any other. I don't follow what you are saying.

No way, I thought it was widescreen like the apples monitors. So it is just like the 19 inch but bigger.

how about the fact of the contrast ratio?
1901fp is 600:1
2001fp is 400:1
i dont know what this thing represents? what does lower ratio affect?
