Well.. Just got my 2001FP and I noticed a few things. As this is my first LCD I have nothing to base this off of. Anyway, I noticed 3 things:

1. Bad viewing angles? Text is readable but I definately notice the corners sort of faded redish when viewing dark colors unless I physically move my head so that im looking straight at that portion of the monitor. I normally sit about 2 1/2 feet away from the monitor. If I move furthur to about 4 ft away or more it gets better but there is no way of getting it so that it doesnt show up.

2. Uneven lighting? Not usually visible but especially when im watching dark dvd's the top right part of the lcd is lighted very noticably more then the rest of the lcd.

3. I know this one is normal, but disappointing. There is a Green lit pixel in the top of the bottom mid portion of the screen. No dead pixels though.

Are these things normal? Or should I send the monitor back?

cleartype?

Cleartype is an option under "display properties," the appearance tab, and the effects button. Uncheck it if you have it checked.

It is the viewing angles that im talking about. The only good viewing angle seems to be the center of the screen.

I just read that monitors can not be exchanged for a full refund. Is this true? Supposedly there is some restocking fee but I cant find information about it.

cazicthule, welcome to the world of LCDs. I know exactly what you are talking about. I noticed the same thing when I first moved to my 1760NX LCD, but probably a lot worst than your currently experiencing. To be honest, that's how most LCDs are. I purchased a Samsung 192T to get better viewing angles, but now some of the angles are worst and I have even worst uneven backlighting than I did with the 1760NX. My friend has a VS 191B and it has the reddish fade too, but in a much more uniform and consistent way than my 2 LCDs.

Before I start rambling, if you could, I would sugest looking at a friends 2001FP or one at a store or something to see if the reddish fade is there. I really don't think its going to get any better though. As for the backlighting issue, from what I have read around these forums, it seems to be a 'luck' thing. Also, if you look at enough crappy and not so crappy LCDs, you actually start prefering the reddish fade over some other worst effects. I am glad someone else out there notices these things. I always complained about it in forums and no one else seemed to care.

You could keep trying to send the monitor back until you get one with what you consider acceptable backlighting, but you should probably find out from persons that have done this already before doing so. I think there was someone that sent the LCD back and forth between DELL like 7 times before getting one he was willing to keep.

I wish you best of luck, hopefully some with a 2001FP can comment on these issue. Most persons have gotten used to these things. Also, most persons here seem to be gamers and they seemed more concerned about response time than viewing angles.

You could also try posting pictures to help other 2001FP owners understand what you are saying.
