2001fp 1600x1200x32?

It won't let me my 2001fp to 32 bit in 1600x1200. Are there any drivers for this monitor or is it just my video card (geforce 3) that can't handle it?
 
Try 24bit. I do not know of any consumer level 32bit LCD's. The quality should be indistinguishable.
 
I know it can only display 24bit but the only option at 1600x1200 is 16bit. It has an option for 32bit at 1600x900 or lower but that doesn't help much. I'm thinking it's probably just my old video card.
 
do you have the latest nvidia drivers?

I've been able to do 1600x1200x32 ever since my GF2 GTS

I don't think the Dell drivers will do anything, but they're on your CD...install them and see what happens.
 
I have the latest nvidia, 56.72 i think. I didn't see any drivers on the dell cd but I'll look again.

you were right, i found the driver on the dell cd but that didn't help :-/ Guess I'll try reinstalling video drivers...
 
hmm, strange.

Oh, and I hit my 10,000th post in the Videocard forum in my thread about dual DVI ;)

The "driver" on the dell CD is just a color profile (useful to sync with a printer or adobe progs).

Are you using a DVI or Analog output? Just curious.

If the driver reinstall doesn't work, your monitor is probably being detected wrong (I don't know why). By default, windows won't show available settings which a monitor doesn't support. You can force the monitor to try though by going to the right-clicking on your desktop and then going to Display Properties -> Advanced -> Monitor and unchecking the "hide modes this monitor cannot display". Return to the display properties screen and you should then be able to force the 32 bits. Also check to make sure the refresh rate is set to 60 Hertz. Anymore won't make a difference on a LCD, but it might prevent you from doing 32bits if it's not one of the available presets.
 
Yeah, I'm definitely doing 32bit @ 1600x1200 on my 2001 FP, with a GF4 TI4600 -- so it's possible!
 
I tried unchecking that "hide modes this monitor can not display box" and it won't even let me select the mode that way. When I go to change resolutions in the Geforce3 tab, 1600x1200x32 in not an option and in the normal display settings tab when I select 32bit it automatically switches to 1600x900. And, it's not even in the list of valid modes when I hit List all Modes in the adapter tab. Although other resolutions up to 2048x1536c32 are listed

I'm using DVI by the way, I really should have mentioned that earlier.

I haven't had a chance to reinstall the video driver yet, so I'll let y'all know when that's done.

ummm, I have the 2001FP LCD and its been running @ 1600X1200X32 since day one.
 
...more or less extrapolating on the idea that that is the physical limit of the screen :/
 
reinstalled my video drivers but no dice. It still tells me it won't do 1600x1200x32. What is that program that let's you set custom resolutions? Might that help?
 
I remember many older video cards with DVI often had a max of 1280x1024x32 since they were not up to the DVI spec of 165mhz. My only suggestion is to try using the vga output and see if you have the option to use 1600x1200x32 there.
 
You are screwed!!

I have also experienced this with the 2001 fp and a GF3 ti200. The only fix i found was putting in a ti4200 (my box uses a 9800) : P

Might wanna give the analog a go. It should work fine at 1600x1200.

Thanks for rubbing it in, hehe. Maybe someday I'll upgrade to something that can drive this beast of a monitor.
