Current Rig:
Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H
AMD Athlon X2 5400+ 2.8GHZ
4GB Patriot DDR2 800
eVGA 7600GT

I have 200 to plunk down for a new video card, and i want one where i can be relatively future proof on all new games for at least 2 years.

What are the suggestions?

Also, should i wait for the 9600GT?

8800GT. This card is coming down to low $200 range and for what it offers, it will be future proof for a good 2 years. No sense getting a 9600GT when it will be slower than an 8800GT. Unless... the 9600GT is alot cheaper.

There were some suggestions in the $150 Budget Video Card thread that were closer to $200.

any good brand name companies coming out with an 8800GT at 200ish?

EVGA is one. I seen the 8800GT came down as low as $229.99 on NewEgg. Right now, it's at $239.99. Zipzoomfly.com has this selling for $229 right now and it's stock. There are other brands from Asus, Leadtek, MSI, XFX and BFG but, most people I think get the EVGA line. Eventually it will be closer to the $200 range.

try to get a 8800Ultra for $200 too:p

you can get a Good brand name ATI HD3870 512MB for $200 at Microcenter. If you have the extra mooolah to pau $229.99 plus takes and maybe even shipping then... go for the 8800GT

i like the 8800GT Superclocked from eVGA on NewEgg, 249.99 after MIR

i need to check measurements and see if the thing even fits into my microATX case lol.

I have the EVGA suerclocked edition and it measure around 9-9.5". If you have a good 10" in your case then, it should be ok. You must also take into account when you plug the power connector in which also affects the overall length.

Just get the mormal one, not worth the extra $30.

there was a thread couple days ago for 188 bux after rebate with the 8800gt. check it out.

i'm a big eVGA person though.

I'd pony up the extra cash to own an evga card.
