I searched, i googled and i found nothing so i turn to you [h]ard members to direct me, ive been thinking about B&W and other brands, and in the world of speakers im beyond lost

so ATM im looking for bookshelf speakers at around the price range of 200$ used or new, and have no idea where to do my reasearch, how i should do it, and where i should even start

currently i have a sansui AU-717 (probably the ONLY component from my dads 70's speaker journey that works )

The X-LS is recommended a lot around here -- or anywhere else for that matter -- (www.av123.com) and is also the bookshelf that I'm looking at for my next upgrade.

I'm a huge fan of the PSB alpha speakers. I have the bookshelves (Alpha B's I think) from that series, and to me they sound incredible. These are about 10 years old and I got them new for 250. The newer Alpha's are similarly priced I believe. Not much love for PSB around here though :(

the PSB alpha B1 is a great speaker for the price and recently received a rave review from Stereophile. the Pardigm atom monitor received another great review. Both come in just under $300 list. You might want to ask around, my local PSB dealer quoted me $220 for the B1's

i just ordered a pair of the x-ls 2 days ago. theres a sale goin on now so id pick em up while there still cheaper.

The X-LS look like they're out of stock at the moment except for the cloth grill variety. Anyone know if the grill can be removed?

Ok, listen to me. I love XLS and everything that they are doing to at av123 to bring quality sound for a real world price. This guy here, Paul, is another good guy. I just got a pair of his 805s and sub and I have to say I like them better than the Usher 520s that I had. They have massive bass response for bookshelves and their mids and highs are the natural sound you get from single drivers. I can't be more happy with these. I sold my headphones so i could get one of Paul's TAD-60 amps. I seriously loved my headphones but these speakers are better.

$189 on sale now you cannot get a better deal on new speakers anywhere I promise.

that sansui is a great receiver btw. it will sound really good with these speakers. they really do look as good as the pictures.

I've got a set of the Klipsch Reference RB-6's I got for just under $300. Running off of a 90W DENON amp. Friggin' awesome - ya gotta like Klipsch though.

Lotta folks still think they run a little bright.

That is a good setup. However, they are really not in the same league as the 805s. The mids and highs on these are more along the lines of the B&W 705

I am dead serious. I would not say anything positive if I was not certain. These compete and I think have better sound than the JM Labs Chorus series. I have heard both the JM and B&W and think that these are better than the JM and have better bass than the B&W but not quite as nice in the highs.

thanks for everything guys

another question...is there a difference between Onix 0.5 referance, and the XLS...is the referance really worth the extra $$?

and on the topic of the 805s...its not that i dont trust ya spaceman;), but does anyone else have an opinion on the speaker?

Not sure about TAD's speakers, but from my friend's experience, I would be VERY hesitant to buy amps from him.
