Whats your OS?

If XP, Do you have SP2 installed?

Latest BIOS?

Xp Pro. Comes with sp2.

Ya i have the latest bios for my board. Its a newer intel board.

I used to have a program that could like strech a partion.... But i lost it. Anyone know of one.

When i install windows it see the drive as being a 30 gig. Why why why why!!?!? I have another 200 gig SATA maxtor and it works fine.....but this ide is being a pain.

so i got partiion magic 8.0 but it sees it as a 30 gig drive. should I delete the partion using PM and try to create one using the f altha't Ahhh God i'm so confused.

Check jumpers. Maxtor drives have a jumper setting that limits their capacity to 32GB.

thought of that already. There is one jumper setting that says "cap limit" No idea what that is but i don't thinkt the is the problem.

After that, check your BIOS and make sure LBA is enabled, and that your system supports 48-bit LBA.

Intel D915pbl mobo. I updated the bios. I don't see where that 48 bit LBA thing woudl be in the bios. I find it odd that it set the SATA drive to 200 no problem.... Man this is the like the frist time I have ever been stumped with a computer issuse.

Dam. Its just driving me nuts that i can't get it working! AHHhhhh *head blows UP*

If that cap limit jumper is set, that is your problem. As it's limits the capacity of the drive to 32gb for legacy motherboards.

there is no jumper at all on the drive right now. Says "no jumper = slave"

and thats what i want. Should i put a jumper on cap limit?

I wonder if i could back this drive under warantry and ask for a serial one :)
