Hey everyone, my specialty is definitely not in netbooks or laptops at all, and my dad has come to me to help find him one! He wants 1GB of ram, and a HDD would be nice, but at least a 16gb ssd if that's possible, and he's hoping for 199, maaaybe 250 or so. I've tried looking, but I simply can't find them anywhere? He's okay with refurbed, but still I've had no luck. Even if I did get one, I don't know what netbooks have better build quality and features compared to the others. Any help or advice? I think he saw a black friday deal and now won't setlle for anything less.

Look into the Dell Mini 10v netbook. It's one of the best in it's class, can run Mac OS X (if you're into that), and can easily be had for ~$199. Check the Dell Outlet for some good deals on refurbs.

Thanks! Do they usually have them cheaper though? I see 259.99 as the lowest priced one, that's not bad, but still. I appreciate it either way, definitely something I'll look into!

Look for 15% off coupon on refurbs, they are usually around somewhere.

I have the perfect answer for you.

Or look into the same section at XpressCanada.com if you're in the US and you'd rather buy it online.

Personally, I got the AOA110-1995 config from them a few months ago for $200 (it was on sale), and I'm really happy with it. Even though refurbed, it looks and works like new. It has an 8 GB SSD and 8 GB SDHC card (it goes in a slot and doesn't stick out, so you can keep it there always).

There are also 160 GB models, but they're a little more pricey.

The only upgrade I got for my A110 was a 6-cell battery for $33. It gives me ~5 hours of runtime. The stock battery is good for ~2.5 hours.

Since pinetrail is coming out in January, expect sharp price drops on old-tech netbooks. I mean, there were a wide selection of various netbooks UNDER US$200 already on Black Friday, so I think a repeat is coming, and soon ;)

Well, shit. Do you think I just wasted 660 dollars including tax on that laptop above? I bought two, which is why it was 660. We didn't really need one right now....ah well. That laptop I got was still good right?

If your dad is looking for a laptop rather than a netbook (they're different things, one cannot fully replace the other), then I'd say that extra $100 is well worth it. Good find. Sure, it may not have the best processor, but for $300? Looks like a win to me. 15", full keyboard, dvd-drive, etc.
