I am looking for a 20" Widescreen for primarily graphic design work and secondly video work. After reading the forums some, I assume i want an S-IPS / IPS panel?

Is the NEC 2070WNX a good choice?

Thanks!

I've heard it rocks but I was wondering if a 20" widescreen is too small for gaming.

NEC 2070WNX uses a TN panel. You do not want to get this for your applications. I think you were referring to the 20WMGX2 which uses the S-IPS panel.

The 20WMGX2 rocks.

The 20WMGX2 is out of my price range. Are there any other lesser expensive IPS panels at this size, or am I going to have to go PVA? If so, what are the best 20" widescreen PVA displays?

The bad news is that there are essentially two viable S-IPS panels on the market: the 2007WFP S-IPS and the NEC that's super-expensive. So you either get the NEC, play the Dell lottery, or get an S-PVA. As for me, I played the Dell lottery and I won, some others haven't, but I figure it is worth a shot.

The Dell and NEC aside, I have heard some pretty good things about the Gateway FPD2185W (not the 22, the 21...the 22 uses a TN panel). Same resolution, but you get an extra inch so it's easier to read text and such. $449 from the Gateway website. From what I gather, probably the closest thing to an S-IPS is an S-PVA. Only real issue with S-PVA is the input lag, but it's less on some monitors and more on others. Oh, and the S-PVA version of the 2007WFP is particularly bad for an S-PVA screen, otherwise there wouldn't be quite as much complaining.

Either way, you absolutely need to steer clear of TN panels if you are doing graphic work since they can't even display 16.7 million colors without dithering; pathetic. Virtually all 22" panels and probably a majority of 20" and below are TN.
