Went to my local BestBuy and snagged the entire stock of these cases, as they were marked down to an astonishing $47! I picked up 5 of them, and went ahead and xferr'ed my gf's pc into one. (She was using a MicroATX system, but I will be upgrading her system now that she has a HUGE tower in the coming weeks.)

Well, with a nice case like this and plenty of spare parts I went ahead and gave it a side window using tinted plexi.

First the case in the box - (it is a LianLi!! Lian Li fans, and even on the shipping sticker on the box. This case is awesome!)

Next for the tool list - Clamps, File, JimmyJohns, Tinted plexi, square, measuring tape, dremel and reinforced cutting discs etc.

Finished and mATX system installed..topped off with a bouqet of flowers I got for her for her bday. She was super excited with the finished results...then asked "What no quad core upgrade with sli G92's?". That will be coming next week....oy vey!

Why would you get a full server case for a mATX system? I'm all for overkill, but thats a little weird.
 
Read again mang! I just xferr'ed her mATX components to it, I am upgrading her pc next week ;)

Plus its $47...I mean how many SFF or matx cases can you get even for that cheap? Unless you're talking about some POS plastic/steel garbage can case...

Well done.

Take a sharpie to the cut edges, to hide the bare aluminum.
 
so how much of a gap is there between the plexi and the aluminum?
 
No gap at all, the tape is very thin.

The edges are great IMO, after filing them down and all. I'm going to get some molding to go over the edges to cover up the bare aluminum and then retape the window back down. Then I won't hear anal complainers whining about "horrible edges".

All and all, this is better than the LianLi direct replacement which would cost $40 plus $35 shipping, and this window is tinted.

How does the inside look? Can you take some pictures (of an empty one)? I am battling between the CoolerMaster CM590 and the NZXT Alpha. The CoolerMaster doesn't have the Reset button while the NZXT doesn't have Firewire frontport. I like the straight front ports on top drive bay like the CoolerMaster's, but the no Reset button kind of a trade-off. The NZXT's ports are to the side, which I don't like. There are trade-offs both cases either way...
 
in my old case i got electrical tape, and went around the window in a square, then got a quarter (yeah the coin) and put it on the corners, and cut around it with a razor to make it rounded... turned out pretty good, plus it would hide those concertina cable edges.
 
Holly smokie, did the sale end Saturday? I missed a big chance to get one myself.
 
I think its pretty much a clearance price at this point and will be that while supplies last.

i have a microatx system in my rocketfish. and really, how is that overkill? its just your choice of a motherboard.



It looks really nice, but you should have put some U joint edging around the edges you cut.

Ok I guess that makes me the only complainer, however when I first looked at the "finished" pic that only think I could see was the nasty cut aluminium edge making the whole setup look bad. Its like having a really sweet car, but you got in an accident and you have a huge dent in one side that everyone notices.

Yeap, the Rocketfish case. It's $119 online...is the local store price different? Might stop by one tomorrow to find out.

Some stores have them marked down to $70~ however some have them as low as $47, just depends on the "chain". Check the hot deals section for the sku information and you could simply just call and ask them to look it up and to cross reference other stores in your area.

Looking forward to how it looks when you cover up the cut portion on the outside of it, I've done a few of these and I'm always critical of my work. Fantastic job, and screw all these "haters" tryin to "dog" you out.

i picked one up at the store in ann arbor the other day 53 plus tax very nice case has anyone found out if the lian li top panel fits this case yet? would like to put the fans on top
 
hmm nice straight cuts on aluminum, and you did all this on a dremel you say? I'm trying to cut through SECC steel on my case and its not easy. I just got the Multisaw attachment to the dremel I wonder how it will fair.

Yup, all with the dremel in the pic. I used the reinforced cutting discs, I believe they are number 640. Just tape it off, use a square and pencil the cuts, and start in on it. You can find plexi from any hardware store, typically a sheet big enough to make multiple windows for under $20
