20 Pin sleeving question?

Ok tomorrow im going to sleeve the humengous 20 pin cord. I am going to draw me a diagram of the molex connector, and put what color wires go where, and assign a number to that pin also. And then im going to put some masking tape around the actual pin with a number, so I can put that pin back where it originally came from. My question is, do I really have to put that pin back where it originally came from, or as long as I put the the same color pin in that slot it should be fine? For example, say if Pin #1 is green, and as long a put a green wire in Pin #1 it will be fine. Or do I have to put the same exact wire back in Pin #1 as it was orginally before I removed the molex connector. Sry if I confuse some of you, I cant word things very well. So I have to give examples.
 
Sounds like fun, reminds me of labeling the 20 plus vacuum lines on my car...
I'm gonna have to buy some wire loom, my sleeving wouldn't fit over the connector....needles to say, it didn't happen.
 
I've seen reviews use the prepackaged stuff without removing any the pins.
Just a sharp 90degree angle at the based of the connector and tape it as tight as you can to the cords. With as little tape as possible.
