I want to buy a new LCD so im wondering which one to get. I would like a 20 inch 1600x1200. So theirs the

Dell Ultrasharp 2001FP
Viewsonic VP201

I was also thinking of the Dell Ultrasharp 2005FWP but i am not sure about widescreen. not many games support it without hacking the game itself. but the specs are alot better then the 2001FP, i have a 9700Pro. Please someone help me choose or suggest a new one. i know that the viewsonic and the dell 2001Fp share the same panel.

I've had my 2001FP for almost a year and have no complaints. It doesn't have any dead/stuck pixels and displays everything beautifully. I'm upgrading to the 2405 because I love widescreens. I've never used the Viewsonic, so I can't comment on it. If my choice were between the 2001 and 2005, I'd take the 2001 because of its UXGA (1600x1200) resolution.

I really like my 2001, too. I thought about getting a 2005, but I too was concerned about game compatability with it. I didn't want to have to modify game files to make it work properly.
Also, when looking at the 2001 and the 2005 side by side the 2005 looks smaller.
I guess they have most of the problems with the 2005 smoothed out by now, but for quite some time there was a massive thread here with people having problems with it.
On the flip side of that, MANY people love their FPW's, so you might too.

im still pretty undecided
any one with a 2001FP or 2005FPW please speak now or forever hold your peace. Any other 20 inch suggestions?

i've got an apple 20" widescreen on the way.

granted, it's much more expensive than the LCDs you're looking at, but after i saw it in a store and played around with it, i had to have one.

also, i do graphics work and these things are highly recommended by professionals.

i do not know how good they are for gaming, because i don't game and don't care, frankly.

There really is something to the adage, "once you go widescreen, you never go back!" I had a laptop with a 15.4" widescreen and I thought it was unbelievable. Now, every 4:3 laptop looks cramped to me. The number one requirement for my next laptop is a WSXGA+ widescreen. I've gotta feeling that once I receive my 2405, I'll be hooked on it for life.

What games do you play? A lot of new games are widescreen capable; hl:2, source, cs 1.6, WoW, etc..

More and more games will support widescreen in the future. I have a 23inch apple hd display and can say that I like the wide screen although it is not a must for me. Good luck on whatever you decide to get.

i am still undecided, any reviews u can post of both dell monitors? or a comparison
i just dont like such a wide aspect, if you have 1060x1020 or watever can you run it at 4:3?

If you don't like "a wide aspect" then a widescreen is not for you. Maximum PC magazine reviewed several 20" LCDs, including the Dell and Viewsonic, last year. The only LCD that received a 9/10 "Kick Ass" award was the Dell 2001FP.

Read the review here: http://www.maximumpc.com/reviews/monitors/review_2004-05-18b.html

Both of the 20.1 inch screens may it be Dell or Viewsonic are nice. both hold the same type specs, and have been reviewed to death. From what I have seen. both of them they are about the same, so it comes down to what maker you like better and pricing.

As for wide screen that's if you like or need it or not...
