20" Gaming LCD suggestions

Im looking for a 20" lcd monitor that is good for gaming. I have been reading around and there has been a lot of Dell 2005fpw posts and there has been mixed reviews. Outside of the Dell model i have no clue as to what is good or not. I am using my monitor mostly for games and although crts respond better i want more space on my desk (a 19" crt takes up a lot of space :( ). I also do a lot of graphical work and movie watching on my computer as well. Any suggestions will be greaty appreciated
 
You probably don't want to hear this, but highly consider going for the 2005FPW. It's such a great monitor at an unbeatable price. Just think it over.

i second that...the newer revisions have solved almost all of its predecessors problems

looks much better and has no backlight bleeding or dead pixel issues....

No they haven't. I just bought 2 dell 2005 fpw's and BOTH have the exact same leakage problems and were manufactured in week 20 of 2005:

 
im always on my computer and such an avid gamer that i have sharp sight. Meaning that i can easily detect anything on the screen that is not right, whether it be the slightest bit of ghosting or discoloring. Most people can get past that but little things like that tend to distract me more then anything.

Is the backlighting issue just a dell thing? Most backlighting posts all have to do with dell LCD's. Maybe the Acer is a better monitor in that respect

I can see the backlighting on my 2005FPW when the screen is totally black, but it looks nothing like that... you just have to hope to get lucky and get a good one. As for dead pixels, mine only has one and it so small it is hardly noticeable.

I still say you should go for it. I mean, dude, if you can find it for around $400 then get it. You're not going to find any other LCD for that cheap. And I am just like you when it comes to being on the computer all the time. I can notice little flaws. For instance, I could see some ghosting in the HL2 demo at the native resolution, but it didn't really bother me. I'm just saying you're getting one hell of a deal. You're not going to find anything like the 2005FPW for so cheap right now, unless you want to wait a while.

Just my 2 cents. :)
 
is there any new monitors comming out within the comming months that might be worth waiting for?
 
I have a benQ 20" that uses the same panel as the 2001FP if you don't care enough for widescreen, go for this monitor, as its pretty cheap compared to the LG alternative that uses the same panel a very good monitor for gaming, movies, photo editing what ever you can use it for, I have 0 complaints, only thing is if you get a 20" lcd ur going want to run games at 1600x1200 for them to look good =p so make sure u dish out alot for a Vcard =D
i just happen to be selling an x850xt pe pci if ur interested too =D!


anyways I play CS. CS:S. BF2. lineage 2, RollerCoaster Tycoon, and NFSU2, and can't see any shadowing, going from CRT to LCD u might notice a bit at first but it quickly goes away.
 
well most of my games i run 1024x768 (cs source, bf2) just because im a fps whore. Anyways isnt there a way to change the aspect ratio of the screen to play games in non widescreen mode? Also games compatible with wide screen resolutions are the pictures stretched out or do you actually get a larger viewing area?

i played nfs on a laptop once and there was so much ghosting it was unplayable. Now that was like 2 years ago but i guess that i just have a fear that i would buy something that is relatively expensive and have it turn out to be a bad idea.
 
Just a question, why are you guys recommending the 2005FP over the 2001? You get more screen real estate and a standard resolution with the 2001. I don't know of too many games that natively support the 2005's weirdo widescreen res. From my research, it seems like going widescreen isn't really worth it until you hit 24" models, so why do you guys recommend a 20" widescreen over a fullscreen?
 
I just got my 2005FPW and I am using it for gaming without a single problem. Thankfully I don't have any dead pixels and no backlighting issues.

So far it has been a wonderful monitor!
 
20" Wide is supported by most new games. If not there's easy tweaks to make it work. You get plenty of real estate :)
