20" Enough for two windows?

For those of you with 20" widescreen displays (specifically Dell 2005FPW or 2001) do you feel that there is enough screen real estate to comfortably put two internet browser windows side by side?
 
i don't know so i can't answer your question, but why not just get a second monitor?
 
I just spotted 19" BenQ 8ms panels with DVI over at Newegg.com for $266 (after MIR). At that price, it would be cheaper to just get two of those, and your real estate would be 2560x2048. With those widescreens, it would only be 1650x1080. (Please forgive my #'s if they're off a few.)

I'm seriously looking at getting 2 19" panels instead of widescreen...
 
If you want 2 internet windows side by side for full page views... then no... but I wouldn't go to a dual setup... unless it was dual widescreens... I love my 2005fpw
 
too small, imo as well. you really need a 2405 to comfortable fit 2 windows.

or get 2 monitors :)
 
You can stuff 2 side by side, but it's not ideal ("only" < 800 pixels each on a 2001fp). I use tabbed browsing, or just overlap a bunch of windows personally. I tend to find that i have unused vertical space in most cases, so i'll often have one in the upper left (loaded with 5 or 6 tabs), and another bottom right (loaded with a few tabs as well), overlapped in the center.

I used to have a second monitor, didn't use it enough to make it worth the loss of deskspace (the cat has to sleep somewhere). I found myself actually just not using alot of space on each monitor (one at 1600x1200, the other 1280x1024). It was nice for work though, code and app on one, docs and notes on the other. Hmm, i seem to have wandered a bit. =P

Yes, I have Dell 2005 and having 2 windows side by side works fine. I had NetBeans (Java IDE) and Firefox running side by side, saved me tons of time and aggravation (otherwise I would have to switch between them often). 840x1050 (half of the screen) is plenty for most websites.

your numbers are off not by a few, but by a lot :D
1 19" screen is 1280x1024
2 of those side by side give you 2560x1024
2560x2048 (what you said) is 4 19" screens in a 2x2 configuration :eek:
 
here's 2405... I just ran 2 pages in word since it reduces "cheating" by changing window size :) You can see there would be room on each side, as there is still plenty of room to have trillian always-on-top without overlapping text

Very very nice to have 2 windows side by side at fullsize! I've used a variety of dual monitor setups of different size combinations and, while slick, it's much nicer to have it all on one monitor!
 
Hmmmmm...that last picture is EXTREMELY tempting.

Unfortunately I do not have the finances to make the step up to a 23-24 inch.

Anyways, I decided to walk into a local store and have a look at a 21" screen and unfortunately I found that it was not adequate for my needs (albiet it came pretty close).

Now my only choice is to go dual monitor. But I'm worried that I will not make use of the 2nd monitor to justify the cost...I'm also worried that I won't be comfortable physically moving my head to look at two monitors.

So what do you guys think?

Most of the time I will only be making use of one browser window.

At times I will run (ie. not everyday):
One tabbed browser window
Trillian (or some sort of other messenger)
1-3 Text Editor windows or sometimes I will run a fullscreen IDE
A relatively small playlist window
A file browser window
 
I think you will definitely get enough utility to justify the cost. I'd consider perhaps a pair of 17" LCDs.... I know I saw a set for sale in the FS/FT section for reasonably cheap...

It really is nice to be able to keep, say, all your message windows and whatnot on a secondary screen.

And, true, the nice part about going dual vs a single widescreen is that it makes it much easier to downgrade with little financial loss if you find you don't need/like it and/or just need some cash :)
