Any thoughts? I gave up on the 2005, it seems to have a lot of issues. I was thinking about the 2405 but it's very expensive here. I can get a 20" ACD for GBP490 through my company. Worth going with the 20" ACD and saving about GBP350?

Cheers

call dell uk this week...they're giving a 25% discount on the 2405FPW...which takes it to £648...if you push slightly harder they'll give it to you for £610 including 3 year warranty and shipping. i ordered mine may 4th and got it yesterday.

I thought they had a 45+ days shipping time now in all of europe?

so did i...they told me to expect it early july...i checked the trackers a few days after ordering and it said shipped!

There's some food for thought here ... I kinda like the idea of an ACD (even if it is 20") but the 2405 for GBP610 sounds very cool.

Anyone got a 20" ACD? What're they like for gaming and DVD playback?

The should be great for both considering that they are S-IPS panels.

I have one, and while i've never played with the 2405 in person i have played with a few of dells older LCDs and i can say i honestly love my ACD. Only games i've played is 'GooBall' (some dumb 3d mac game  ) and 'Warcraft3' and they both played and looked amazing. The cut scenes in Warcraft3 were beyond words. The LCD is very bright i usually keep it at about 1/2 or 2/3 brightness unless i'm watching a dvd. I've only watched a few DVDs and they also look amazing.

I was also in your shoes about whether to get the 2405 or the 20in ACD. What made my mind up is the apple store 15minutes from my house. If something ever went wrong with a dell monitor i'd have to worry about shipping that shit back. My 20in ACD if something goes wrong i drive 15min drop it off and wait for them to fix it. Drive 15min and its mine again.

2405 because it's a PVA panel, and PVA > S-IPS. Better blacks and better viewing angles with no purple tinting.

Are you serious? The contrast you'll get at useable brightnesses is hardly better on the 2405. This applies to the black issue. The viewing angle isn't any better. In fact, I've heard that it was worse on this model. While many IPS's exibit very faint purple tinting, I have yet to see it on any of the newer LG S-IPS monitors. The PVA has extremely poor GtG response times and the color rendition and accuracy generally stinks.

The one thing that the 2405 has going for it is price. If it cost as much as the 23" S-IPS displays noone would be buying.

All you would have to do is call them. They will send you a replacement and either pick up your old monitor or give you a packaging label so you can send it back for free.

I'm using ACD 23" on my Windows machine and it is great.

Seriously, though, no matter what others say, just go with whatever you think is best for you.

I rang up today and got qouted £648 rang back up at 4:50 but the extension was busy so i left a message and he hasnt got back so looks like i got to wait till monday and hope the deal is still on. He did qoute me the price and said he would hold one for me so hopefully he will till monday. Also what did you say to get it down to £610 cuase he wouldnt budge for me :(

i said all this crap about evaluating monitors...and if this one was good that id order seven more...i also said 'call it £600 and ill pay you right now'...and he said 610 so i said ok

just managed to order mine and he sent a quote even tho i gave him my credit card info etc. Said to sign it and email it back but on the quote it says they will process the order as soon as they recieve the payment which they have. So will delay sending this signed quote back delay my actual order time?

Cheers
