alright im upgrading to a DFI ultra-D and ive heard it requires a 24pin sli psu. I dont plan on doing the sli mod so i dont plan on running sli i do however plan on overclocking the hell out of my system (you know you gotta be [H]ard). Would a 20pin to 24pin adapter be sufficient? if so, can some one link me to a good/cheap adapter.

Overclocking the hell out of it + Adapter= Probably not the best idea.

Some boards have stability issues with the adapters. If you want to be [H]ard just get a new PSU.

i actually have had no problems with my ultra but it doesnt support 24pin so i might as well upgrade

Native 24pin modular....the TTGI/Superflower Plug-N's and the OCZ modstreams. xoxide and directtron have them. But they aren't ATX2.0.

Less than 80 bucks.......check the before buuying stickie and see what tickles your fancy and then go from there......

wow i must have been out of the loop for awhile what is atx2.0 all ive heard of is eATX, is it the same thing?

No. ATX 2.0 is the newest standard for PSU's. It supports dual 12v rails for all the really power hungry new components and eliminates the -5v.

is it something ill actually need? if so whats a good psu that has this capability and 24pins

For that board most likely it is an SLI board. So those dual 12v will be handy ot say the least if running two vieocards.

For your price point mentioned earlier probably the Fortron Blue Storm.

For around $80 you can't get any better than this TTGI/Superflower Modular - http://directron.com/tt550k14.html. Large 140mm fan so it moves lots of air very quietly, blue LEDs look great, it's modular which is great, 550w means lots of juice, a -5v rail and a 24pin connector (for all you MSI users), and 30a on the 12v rai which is enough for all but the most power hungy systems. Plus, TTGI/Superflowers are some of the highest quality and most reliable psus you can get.

yea i just found the fortron $92 on the egg. for a nice 500watt psu this isnt too much to pay as long as i can sell my ultra on ebay...i doubt anyone will buy it but ill try. if anyone is reading the thread ill sell you my black 500watt ultra x-connect psu for $45 shipped, pm me...LOL

oo i like that superflower :D ive had good experience with that brand before. Has anyone tested this sucker to see how good it is because 550watt plus its modular and cheaper than the fortron (but with directrons shipping it will be about the same)

Not that I know of although strictly on reputation it should be good. I am trying to get together the money to buy one and play with it though......the but is that it is only an ATX 1.3....so no dual 12v's.

Edit: Missed shadow's post.......what he said.

true but that 14cm fan is a good selling point for me those things are friggin QUIET and ill be the first to tell you i didnt by my exos for its super cooling powers...my pc must be silent wich is basically the only thing i hate about my ultra x-connect

Yeah I know. The ATX1.3 is the only thing against it in my opinion. I like the 14cm fan as well. Just hope they don't end up out of stock before I get the money together on the 1st.

i wont be using two video cards EVER or more than one hdd so i may not need dual 12v rails

It may not have dual 12v, but it still is native 24pin. No real worries then.

Ok well then jump all over it and let me know how it works out :D Just so you know I will be jealous until I get one.

it might be a couple weeks before my system is up and running but ill pm you about it :D

ETX refers to the physical form factor which is an extra long ATX supply
the PCP&C 850ETX actually complies to the EPS12V spec (a 4 x +12V rail split plane)

ATX12V v1.3 natively has a 20 pin connector and a single rail
ATX12V v1.3 hybrids have more wattage in a given class devoted to the single +12V rail
they may or maynot also have the 24 pin connector
ATX12V v2.01 will have the greater capacity devoted to the +12V it will be spit into dual +12V rails and it natively has a 24 pin main power connector

its very likely that soon ATX12V v2.0X will add 4 more pins to the 4 pin +12V auxillary mobo connector (8 pin connector 2x4)
this would be to power the next gen of PCI-E 150W cards
this would bring the connectors into compliance with the EPS12V spec
its also possible they may split the +12V rail again brings the two specs into full compliance with each other

EPS12V has 2 possible +12V rail configurations

EPS12V 6.1.1 12V Power Rail Configuration

There are two types of 12V rail configurations for systems: 'Common plane' and "Split plane' processor power delivery. The 'common plane' system has both processors powered from a single 12V rail (+12V1) from the power supply. The 'split plane' system has both processors powered by seperate 12V rails (+12V1 and +12V2) one dedicated to each processor. The system in both cases, has an additional 12V rail to power the rest of the baseboard +12V loads and dc/dc converters. +12V1, +12V2 and +12V3 should not be connected together on the baseboard to ensure that 240VA protection circuits in the power supply operate properly
Table 6: 12V Rail Summary
........................................................................................................................................................................................
Common Plane System........................................................Split Plane System
+12V1........Processors.........................................................+12V1........Processor 1
+12V2........Baseboard components other than processors.......+12V2........Processor 2
+12V3........Drives and peripherals..........................................+12V3........Baseboards and components other than processors
...........................................................................................+12V4........Drives and peripherals

i'm getting the same board and am thinking of the Tagan 480W PSU
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-101-509&depa=0
here for $78 shipped.

i was told the description is wrong and that it is 24-pin native w/ 24->20 adapter, and not the other way around.

of course, i just read in another thread that PC P&C will let you upgrade for a small fee, so i may send in my deluxe to upgrade it to their pci-express version w/ 24-pin and pci-e cable! :D

Well I broke down and ordered a TTGI/Superflower 550w Plug-N w/14cm fan today since pay deposited. I can't do a real review but I can give my general impressions when i get the secondary ssytem up and running in a couple of weeks and my limited multimeter readings.

Actually, you can get an 20-24 pin cable for your ultra. Don't know if I'd do it either, but at least your aware of the option now.
