2 video cards?

i heard people saying that they have "dual xxxx(replace x with video card type) video cards". what is the point of dual video cards?

they are talking about Nvidias new SLI mode ( Scalable link interface) technology to make things real simple and short you ahve 2 video cards in your system and each card splits of the frames to be rendered or each card renders half the screan so basically you have the power of 2 video cards working together

so the smart ones may not want to admit. Or at least I wouldn't...

I've got priorities elsewhere aside from spending $600 on video card expenses. and 6600 duallies would be stupid.... just get the single 6800 for cheaper & negligible performance difference
 
And then there's people like my uncle that'll probably get SLIed Ultras on his next computer (upgrades about once per year) and never actually run anything in 3d, beyond a screensaver and maybe a few demos from nVidia (if they come on the driver CD). If somebody tells him it's the best on the market, he'll probably go for it.

The real attraction of SLI, to my mind, isn't that you can buy 2 of them right now, it's that you can get one card now and get the second in a year or two, after prices go down, rather than buying a whole new card.
