heya guys. i need some help please. i am currently running a 9700pro and i just bought a sapphire 9250 PCI. i have never installed two video cards in one box before. i went to put in the 9250 and upon boot up i got no display what-so-ever.

what special steps do i need to take to install 2 video cards in one system?

thanks in advance.

you dont need to prepare anything special. Just plug your stuff in, put in the drivers and thats it. You shouldnt have any conflicts.

Check to see if the primary video is set to pci... it happens. Change it to agp if it isn't already set that way. I don't know of any newer motherboards that don't come with agp set as primary video.

Did you change the primary video in bios?? Should be an option to tell the board to look for a pci or agp card first.

Also why do you want to use a 9250... I have one and they suck. Your 9700 is far superior. Anyway check that, you don't have to remove the card, just plug the monitor into the 9700 then change it in bios.
cool thanks man. i did see an option like that in the bios, im gonna try it right now.

this is the 9250 that i bought. i picked it only so i can run 4 monitors on this computer. i didnt need anything fancy.

well, i found an option in the bios called "Init Display First" and i changed it from PCI to AGP. im still having the same problem. i boot the computer, everything sounds normal, but there is no signal being sent to any screen.

Just wondering. Does the system boot with just the 9250 in it? Just to make sure that the new card isn't bad.

good thinking. i just tested it in another box, and it works flawlessly.

What the above said, go into BIOS and set Primary Video to AGP and it should work perfectly.

i tried. the closest option in the bios that i found is "Init Display First" and im not sure if that is it or not. the options under "init display first" are PCI Slot and AGP.

still no luck.

that's the right option, you do have your monitor plugged into the 9700 right?

you could try hooking it up to the other card and see if windows comes up on it

yeah. infact, i have 4 screens hooked up at once so that i dont miss anything (2 per card, dvi & vga)

another option is to put both in, but keep the old one plugged in. If you can see windows when it boots, go into the device manager and disable the old card (make sure the new one is there as well) and reboot. The new card should be in full function.

yeah i tried that too. the problem is, i get no signal at all when the PCI card is in.

it seems that it just wasnt meant to be. i tested the PCI card in another computer and it works fine. so at least i know the card works.

i uninstalled the 9700pro, and installed the PCI card to see if it will work alone in the system i am trying to get this to work on. to my surprise, nothing. i really expected it to work. the system will not send any display signal to any card when the PCI card is in. i tried it alone and with the 9700pro.

i guess im just screwed.

In your BIOS check to see if you have a setting that says something like disable unused PCI clock. I had that enabled (powersaving) and I could not get ANY pci card to work in my MB.

you sir, are my hero.

i went into the bios and found an option named "Disable unused PCI Clock" with the choices of Yes or no. It was on yes. I changed it to "No", installed the PCI video card, and it works! I have display on all screens.

Finally, after years of a dual set up, I am now quad :D

Thanks everyone for all the help, and thanks for not giving up!
