Ok, I thought I had this set-up correctly a few weeks ago, but now I'm not sure(I only received credit for 1 WU). I just got the quad up again, so:

I installed AC, thats done/all that is needed, correct?

I installed 2 instances of F@H, 1 folder x1, the other x2.

I ran install bat for x1 and started the client.

Now, do I run install bat for x2 and start that client next?

I read the dual SMP thread, but found it a little confusing.

Both clients are running right now. Can I change this without shutting 1 of them down? Oh, and how? :)

You can try Ctrl+C to kill one, but it is possible it will kill the other. What you may want to do is a quick copy and paste of both folders to a backup folder. If it kills both, it is possible, you will likely have lost a WU and any progress you will have made. The backup will allow you to restore it to its previous state.

My suggestion is to do the backup, kill the SMP clients (ensure that all cores have been killed by checking task manager), restore the backups (more precautionary than anything else), edit the config file of your second instance to read machine 2, fire up both instances.

Go to the folder for your second instance. In there will be a file called "client.cfg". Edit it (any text editor will do). Change "machineid=1" to "machineid=2". Close and that's it.

Either start FAH with the -config flag, then change the MachineID to 2 in the advanced section.

Or open the client.cfg file with Windoze note pad, change the NachineID to 2, close and save changes.

Before you shut then down, check they are not crunching the same work unit, at least one of protien(run, clone, Gen) numbers need to be different.
If they are identical then delete the work folder and queue.dat file from the client you changed to 2.

Luck .......... :D

Done, so I only lost 1 WU(only 2%)

All that's needed to install a second SMP client is copy the entire F@H folder excluding the 'work' folder and queue.dat file. The client.cfg file needs to be edited so that the machineid is set to 2. There's no need to run the install.bat file a second time.

Ah, I did it anyway. :)

3485 PPD, does that sound about right? A 3062 and a 3064 @ 13-14 minutes per %.

BTW - quad is at 3.2 for now, I was falling too far behind and needed to get this thing folding!

For the work-units you're crunching, your PpD is about right.

All my quads are running dual VM's.
Without the advanced methods flag they are getting a steady diet of p2605's.
At 3.1 Ghz, 345 x9, each one pulls down just over 4,000 PpD.

Luck ............. :D

Isn't there a safe way to shut down dual smp clients? I thought I saw one a while back but now that I need to know....I can't find it

Disconnect your network cable or disable your connection through the Control Panel. Wait until the clients stop processing their WUs by checking in Task Manager. Then reconnect and restart. Make sure you backup before you restart the clients to be on the safe side.

Some suggest un-plugging network cable ....
but if you install the loopback adapter .. this trick will not work

Thats it. Im using a wireless adapter so thats easy enough to kill :D sometimes it keeps on folding even after I disco from my router. At least it doesn't crap out on me and leave me hanging at idle for 12 hours
