Here is my dilema here, I've got a LinkSys BEFW11S4 Wireless Router (802.11B) which is down stairs. I have three computers down stairs, all hooked into the router. One laptop which has a wireless card.
This leaves me with one open port on my router (for another wired hookup). What I did was, took a 50 foot CAT5 cable, ran it from down stairs to up stairs, to a second router (Its a d-link $25 router from best buy). Once the wire hits the Dlink router upstairs, two wires come out the D-link go into two desktop computers. The D-link router is about 2 years old and has been sitting around for a while.
NOW... The problem is, the computers hooked into the D-link router don't work, the router keeps losing the "wan" connection, i.e the light goes out.
When I remove the Cable from the D-link router and hook directly into the computer, it works just fine.
I used CAT5 blended with some CAT6 for this project @_@
The question is, is the D-link router bad (it's awfully hot under operation). Can my router downstairs only support a total of 4 wired connections even if they are split by another router?
Is this even possible? lol
