Now, I plan on buying 2 36 gig raptors. I will arrange them in raid0. I have a 60 gig Maxtor 7200 rpm that im fine with making the mirror. Will the Maxtor slow performance? Or will it just be cached in ram or somthing till its written? I'd like to be safe, but not at an extreme risk of performance.

What do you mean by fine with making the mirror?

you ideally waant to have the raptors in RAID then just use the 60 for backup not having anything to do with the RAID

^ what he said :p

If your planning to mirror the hardware RAID 0 with a software RAID 1 it will certainly inpact performance, just Ghost the array (or partitions on the array totaling less than the target drive) overnight on a regular basis ;)
