I've got 2 RAID 5 arrays on a 3ware 9650se. Both are 4 drives arrays. Drives in the first array are 7200.11 seagates, while the drives in the 2nd array are 7200.12s. The first array gets about 125MB/s avg read in HDTune while the 2nd gets almost 3 times that.

The only difference in the drives that I can see is I have a pretty old firmware on the 7200.11s. Could this be the issue? Also, if it is, to update, I imagine I'd have to disconnect each drive and connect each drive individually to my mobo?

Thanks for your help, and if you need more info, I'm sure I probably left something out.

I have the same card. RAID 5 is just really slow on 3ware cards. Its not your drives (Unless u have write caching turned off).

The reason I stick with them is because their management utility is so simple a monkey could setup and manage an array and their cards are rock solid.

HDTune isn't a very good test of speed. Use something like IOmeter instead.

maybe one of you drives is bad... Connect them one by one and do a scan.
Also 7200.12 drives are faster...
