ok... i have 2 computers, and one more at work.. and they all go to that "it is now safe to shutdown your computer" screen when i try to turn them off... then i have to sit there and hold the power button for 10 seconds to get them to turn off... they are all atx... they all are running XP (but i have had it happen on 98 and 2000 comptuers in the past).... why is this happening? and how do i fix it? i am looking through my computer management, and control panels and can't find it..

2nd question...
2 computers, one that has the shutdown problem, one that doesn't... like to not shut off the monitor when idle, even though i tell them to after a certain amount of time in windows.. .it is not the monitors,, they have been hooked up to other computers and done their auto-shut off thing fine... so why isn't the thing in the power options section of the screen saver tab of the display settings not doing it??? one computer has a geforce2 32 mb video.. the other has a hurcules guilemot 32 mb (that keeps using nvidia drivers)...

thanks

scott

If you go into the hardware manager and go to view>show hidden devices there should be a ACPI power option for the power off thing. Youll have a choice between the "it is now safe to shut off your toaster" option and soft power down. I cant remember the exact name of the option, but Im sure you can find it.

hardware manager? do you mean device manager? i looked all in device manager and couldn't find ACPI or anything that looked like it was related to power...

i also couldn't find a hardware manager...

could you be more specific please?

thanks

i clicked the little box to allow APM (advanced power management support) under the power section of control panels. and i think that fixed problem #1..

now what about my 2nd problem??
