I just upgraded my RAM from 2gb gskill PC2 4200 to 2gb PC2 6400

my current specs are:

Core 2 Duo E6300
2gb OCZ PC26400
Asus P5NSLI
BFG 7950GT

So back when I was using my old RAM I managed to get a stable overclock to 2.2ghz before my RAM started sketching out on me. But after I switched my RAM the computer started a post failing spree.

Eventually I had to drop my FSB back down to the stock speed of 1066. I can get up to 1080 on the FSB before the computer won't POST anymore. I also relaxed my timings from 4-4-4-15 to 5-5-5-15 but I don't know if it even made a difference

Voltages are currently 1.3250v VCore, 2.1v DRAM,

am I just making stupid noob mistakes because not being able to push past 2% is retarded.

there's an option to change pci-e speed but i haven't touched it.

I don't think i have an option to "lock" it but it doesn't change if i mess with other settings

Did you clear the cmos with the jumper so the board will read the SPD chip correctly on the new ram modules. Often ram will have different timing requirements for each type of module so it's imperative to clear cmos immediately after replacement.

Make sure you set your PCIe speed to 100mhz. And your PCI speed to 33.33mhz (or the closest thing to it).

Hrm... Try unplugging all your SATA drives, and seeing if more than a 2% OC will post.

Tried unplugging my HD, no success

also tried a 1085 FSB with all vcore voltages from 1.3250 to 1.4250. Still no POST

Computer seems to be running stable at 1080 w/ 1.3250 though. what the

I wasn't even able to underclock before I updated my bios to the latest release.

If you haven't read the how to you might want to give it a look (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1198647) as it has some helpful bits like disabling speedstep and virtuilization technology until later in the process, which seemed to work for me as well.

Ok I tried to update my BIOS

guess what, that failed too

I downloaded the BIOS from asus's website, then tried to put the p5nsli.bin file on my external hard drive, my C drive, and a flash memory stick. Asus's little update program couldn't detect the file on any of those

I put it on a floppy disk (first time i've used a floppy on this build) and I almost shat my pants when it found the file. I shouldn't have got my hopes up because when I tried to update it I got an nice message telling me "error reading file"

now what on this neverending rollercoaster of disaster

EDIT: my computer just choked up on a visualizer. GAH somebody help please
