as per this thread i'll be moving to Linux soon, so can anyone answer my question?

Is it possible to have one instance of FAH that runs regardless of what OS i'm booted into?

if not i was thinking just make the Windnoes one run timeless tinkers (since i'll be gaming when i'm on that one) and have the Linux one -advmethods it up.

I think you can do it as long as your are using WINE (spelling) in LINUX and have a boot area that both OSs can get to.

It has been discussed before.

Check out this thread its got details on what you're looking for.

To summarize, you should make a small fat32/fat16 partition and install FAH there. Then you can run it from there in either OS. If you want to run different configs on the 2 OSes, though, it'd be easier to just install one seperate copy on each OS and not bother with a shared partition.

thanks for the link, p[H]ant0m

unfortunately, i'm a complete n00b at linux so i understood maybe 50% of it.

If someone, after telling me which distro, could just write a simple step by step guide (i.e. 1. hit enter at the boot screen 2. type in: cfdisk 3. make a 512MB Linux Swap File Partition...)

i'm not dumb, just ignorant, so the more specific steps the better!

i have no idea how to implement what Arkaine is talking about in that thread..

You should never admit that

You can teach dumb people to be smart, but ignorance lasts a lifetime ;)

While you're installing Linux and making the partitions (this varies based on what OS it is; let me know and if I've got it I'll do it in a virtual machine and let you know):
add new partition
change it to type 0b, fat32. If it won't let you do this, just leave it the default of 83; we can change it later.
Set it to be mounted on /home/fold.
continue with install.

--- after install finishes ---

download fah to /home/fold
chmod +x /home/fold/FAH500-Linux.exe
--- distro specific startup script here ---

done! again, if you let me know what OS you're using I can be a little more specific.

why does it matter if you run them from the same directory? i have xp and server 2003 dualboot.. and i just installed it twice...

is it so you can continue the w/u you were on when you switch to the other os? they get old and obselete or soemthing?

yes, it's so that i can continue working on the same WU no matter which OS i'm on. This is important, as this rig is on only about 5 - 7 hours a day.

to unhappy_mage: as soon as people tell me what distro, i'll let you know.
