What is new in folding? Has there been any advances in clients? Should I download some new versions? Any Driver releases netting some stability/speed? What else has gone on. Any new hardware? What are current prices like? Not that I'm looking to expand, but I might upgrade a few Video Cards if the PpDpW is there!

Now that things are settled a bit I'll be around more.

The SMP clients expired at the start of the month but you probably already know this. In the GPU front the major changes have been the release of new cores and some new WUs which process much slower on nVidia cards. I don't believe there have been any major new hardware releases worth mentioning about for GPU, but for CPUs there is i7. New GPUs will likely come within a month or two.

Welcome back!!

I'm throwing around getting some 4850s with these new WU comming out.

What's new.. let's see, where to start.. Oh yeah, the one major development that occurred while you were in transit was definitive proof of Kendrak missing some screws. Or maybe just having a few loose. Still TBD... :D

See my sig.

If you use MS Cashback + ebay, An HIS 4850 ICEQ can be had for $129.00.

I will have my another ATI 4850 online by friday.
This brings my total up to 10!

Has ATI increased in PPD? Last I checked it was in the 2500 range, where nvidia was still 4-6k range or more.

Also, any news on the new SMP client that was being developed for windows? I feel I am missing out pretty heavily by not running the linux client.

Well, yes and no.I will be able to give a better answer in a week or two.

I think you are missing out not running the linux client. You really need to be running "notfred"s folding distro.

Here is an example: My T5270 @ 1.4Ghz (Laptop) get 500 PPD on WIN SMP but get 900-1200 PPD on notfred distro. A big PPD difference and it is so easy to use.
Just burn the CD and Boot the CD .. and you are off and running.....

It not so much the ATI client has speeded up a little with the release of bigger protiens to crunch.
Its more the fact the nVidia client has slowed down a lot with the release of bigger protiens to crunch.
The nVidia client can be slowed by upto 40% with these new protiens.

It is now possible to run the nVidia GPU client by useing wine on a Linux box.
I'm not to sure if its also possible to run the ATI GPU client the same way.

Luck .............. :D

Well, not 100% true.
We have some stuff in testing that will blow you away on the ATI side
I will share more when the it gets closer to getting released to the public.

But yes, on the public cores, your statement is correct.

Glad to hear this since I intend to wait for these new releases before making any new GPU upgrades even if takes a while. Now, if Stanford could only fix this anomaly, everything would look groovy for Ati.

That's great news. The current workunits my 4 ATI cards are working on are looking pretty bad ppd wise. Looking forward to the new stuff!
