Hey I just purchased a Samsung 700DF 17" CRT monitor (nothing great compared to you people with $8,000 LCDs, but I love it :)) and I placed it next to my other 17" CRT monitor. Now my question is if I have my Samsung monitor on and then turn on my old monitor I see the Samsung monitor screen shake a little and then come back to normal, is this ok? will it hurt the monitor overtime? should I be worried?

:) SlaYa :)

not really, unless the shaking is severe, and stays distorted. it's just the monitor that is already on getting aclimated to the new mag field being produced by the second monitor. should be fine.

Most newer monitors degauss themselves the moment they're turned on. The effects of the extended magnetic field from the monitor being switched on are what you observe on the monitor next to it.

This is not harmful, or otherwise they would have never build in a degauss function in the first place :p

I prefer to turn on/off both monitors in my dual display setup at the same time, though.
