2 channel input vs. 6 channel

is there any downsides to using 2 channel input onboard instead of 6 channel e.g. audigy for connecting the Z680's to? will it still sound the same?

If the digital connections are used, the quality of stereo output could be enhanced. If analog, then the quality will be the same. The digital connection would sound better because I would tend to believe that Logitech took more efforts to make a decent DAC stage than the MB manufacturer. You will not get surround output from games with a digital connection from that MB.
