I took out my Radeon 9800 pro because it was defective.... i replaced it with a Geforce Mx 440 or something till the new card gets fixed. I get two short beeps followed by 8 other beeps right on startup and the screen remains off. I have a feeling it is the AGP socket on my Gigabyte GA7RXP mobo from like 3 years ago. Is thr agp socket loose? is the video card causing problem ( I really dont think its the Geforce 4 because that card is n ew and was used as a cheap alternative on an older computer. SOMEONE HELP A DESPERATE COLLEGE STUDENT WHO HAS NOTHING IN THE MEANTIME!!!!
 
Make sure the card is securely and completely in the AGP slot. Because AGP has two rows of connections, if the card is not in all the way the bottom row could be touching the connectors in the slot for both rows, and thus the computer could not start up. That has been a problem occassionally for me.

Of course, your AGP slot could just be toast too.
 
If i think my AGP is fucked can i ask a repair shop to fix it? should i buy a new mobo....what the hell do i do to make sure it is securely in there. Im going to jiggle it around and move it to see if it works..but if it doesn't...is it a fried AGP slot? Tell me what to do to make sure...
 
Have you tried looking up what the beeps mean in your motherboard manual?

And if your AGP slot is toast, your best bet is probablly buying a new board, because that is what the average shop is going to tell you to do. I would really check my motherboard manual first to see what the beep codes mean to make sure you are not spending money needlessly.

yeah check the manual, usually beeps refer to a RAM problem but it varies from board to board, read the manual to check it out. does it beep when you put in the 9800? or just this video card?
