Ive been out of the scene for about a year but Thursday I ordered a 2.8 P4 for my HTPC. When it arrived Friday I noticed it was a 2.8E and I wasnt sure what that meant, so a quick look here revealed its a Prescott. After firing it up and seeing a idle temp of 50c I got a little nervous.

First off let me say my HTPC is built for quiet and the little zalman I strapped to this thing with the quiet 92mm fan just wasnt cutting it.

Anyway, off to plan B. I yanked the 2.4c @ 3.4 out of my water cooling main rig and threw it into the HTPC (seems itll only do 3.3 on air 100% stable after a weekend of testing), I then put the prescott into my water cooling rig.

The 2.8e @ 3.3 sits idle at about 42-45c and under load hits almost 60c 100% stable. I can boot into Windows at 3.4 but it fails after a few minutes of Prime (Im betting its a heat problem) and I can even post @ 3.5 but I lock up during boot up. This is all at stock voltage. If I had a better cooling option than water, a bit of a voltage bump and Im betting 3.6-3.8 would be possible, but man I bet it would be hot.

So do those temps look right or is that still considered high? Im not finding a lot of 2.8e threads since the search feature is off.

The prescott's will run quite a bit hotter than the C series. Look into watercooling if you want to get a serious OC.

My temperature gauge for my Prescott reads "ERROR: HOTTER THAN HELL" :p

J/k dont have a pressy. I believe they can handle hotter temps with out errors. Try giving it a little bit of juice. But I dont thinkg I would go more than 1.5v

One other thing. Touch your mosfets on your mobo after running prime for about 30 minutes. See if they're warm to the touch....

They might feel luke warm. J/k LMAO You will probably get 3rd degree burns dont try it.
