Yeah I was wondering if anyone could provide any type of help with my problem. I recently bought the P4P800 Deluxe mobo with a 2.8 c and 1 gb of Kingston Hyper X Pc4000 (sig). Anyway I started off modeslty, got it up to 3.4 and after about a week I settled on 3.2, which was stable and good through hours of prime95. Im using a great air cooling with some Arctic 5 system that kept the temps on the CPU (even when overclocked and loaded) very cool according to MBProbe (28 idle, around 38 Load). Anyway I was listening to some music the other day before starting 2004 when the system froze. I rebooted and came to the Asus AI screen which said I had an overclocking error, however it froze there. Did a cold reboot and now nothing will work, I get no screen output and nothing loads. Ive tested everything out on other machines, the 9800 pro is functional, the ram is good, and its not the harddrives. I hooked my speakers up to the onboard audio only to hear the "lovely" voice of my motherboard screaming "System Failed CPU Test". So i'm stuck with a busted comp waiting to get back to my precious UT04. Ive only been running the 2.8 overclocked for about two weeks at most 4 hours a day and some days 0.

Could I have already burned out the CPU and need a replacement or is there something i can try with P4P800 to make sre or fix it? and if i do need a replacement will I be able to rma it to newegg after a month or get intel to send a replacement, or am i sol? (any replacement suggestions if not the 2.8C)

Sorry for the long post but Im thoroughly pissed, thanks for any help

did you clear the CMOS before rebooting? if not try that

sorry if your post says that i just kinda skimmed it

Yes, try resetting the CMOS jumper first to reset the mobo back to stock settings. Maybe your chip is has "degraded" and won't handle the speed you have it at anymore (some people on this forum have experienced this with their P4s slowly failing to handle the speeds they originally were OCed to).

If the system still gives CPU error after you reset the CMOS jumper, you might have to get another proc. RMAing after OCing is a no no; OC voids the warranty.

i think my P4 did that, it ran 3.4ghz at stock voltages for like 3 months and now it wont run that :(

o well ive given up on OCing, i dont even see a difference when my system is overclocked, sadly

Yeah, tried clearing the CMOS with the jumper setting, at least I hope i kept the jumper on there long enough to reset. Just followed the manual to reset the CMOS, and that didnt do anything. Well its a little late now seeing as how I already RMA'd the CPU b/c I stand another week of UT04... Who knows, they might make a mistake and replace it  , otherwise Im gonna try the CMOS again and then buy a new processor if that fails. IF I do have to buy a new proc, would you suggest another 2.8 C, move up to a 3.0 C, or maybe try out the new Prescotts with my rig below? thanks for the help tho bill n mtbird

Oc'ing voids the warranty. But if the chip doesn't post then how are they going to know?

I seriously doubt intel will bother testing a CPU that was came back in the first palce. If and I mean *IF* they test it at all I don't think they will rip it apart to see if the transistors were taxed too much.

More than likely they will probably throw it in a system and go "Yep it's bad" and send a replacement.

Well I RMA's to newEgg, its the weekend so no word on it yet but do you think NewEgg will follow the same steps as intel, just try it out and replace?

Yeah thats too bad man. My P4 is doing the degrading thing although it only shows any instability with folding@home running. I dont see why not newegg wouldnt replace it. From the sounds of it, it wasnt even the overclocking that killed it. I've never seen a proc do that just work and then not work from overclocking unless it was overclocked way too high and overheated. Usually they just slowy degrade and then fail but anywho, goodluch :)

Ya thanks Bum, I'm hoping to get it back from them by the end of the week, will let you know, they just recieved my RMA yesterday. I really hope the shipping and Processing will make it back here this week :( I can't just sit around and miss out on UT, FarCry, and Pandora Tomorrow as my friends sing their praise and I am left to browse the [H] forums during 1st period...

I feel you...Being without fast internet is a bummer also...

And you only have one computer? Find that hard to believe.

I have three running at the same time, and .... well could run more but 3 is plenty, isn't it?

Not everyone has the resources for that thought...for sure I would run multiple systems but I choose haveing one big rig over multi little rigs on my budget...

*edit*

And maybe a second computer doesnt have the power to do what you really want to do...then its still a drag...

Nah dude I have more than one computer, which is how I keep responding to your messages, buy the other two I have running in my house (they arent mine but I use them) CAN'T be used for gaming, they also don't have my gigs of music and movies or anything like that. So while I have been able to check my e-mail, I havent been able to play any games, talk on AIM (for some reason the comp users dont want AIM), or use a decent comp. Anyway it hasn't been that bad, I've gotten outside more, exercised, spent some time with my girlfriend, and got a nice farmers tan. Oh and I got word from NewEgg, they recieved my package, opened it, processed it, and are shipping me a replacement at no charge by friday ;) . So hopefully Ill be back up and running by then if the processor was truly the problem  . Thanks for the support tho guys...
