wondering if I should swap from a 2.8c to a 3.2e? I think my processor is bottlenecking now on fear but I just want to be able to get through this next year... whats the best processor I can get for my motherboard? I can't seem to find any 3.2C's on newegg... I would rather have a northy but have to get what they have... thanks!

Is 3.08 the best overclock you can manage? Your heatsink should be able to handle 3.2-3.3 as long as you can keep the voltage down.
 
Sounds like you're motherboard or RAM limited. Have you tried a lot of different overclocking options?

I'm in a similar situation with my 3.0c that maxes at 3.25. I've considered a Pressy 3.2 or 3.4, but my oc would still be mobo limited. Maybe try to find a good overclocking motherboard in the FS/FT forum for cheap?

 
Ive gotten it up to 3.2... but My proc requires serious voltage... 1.6. its an M0 so Its a failed extreme edition or xeon. I could probably keep it there its just I have to loosen my timings on my ram (2.2.2.5) and knock down game accelerator to auto and up the voltage. I was thinking i could get a 3.2 and then up it to 3.4-3.5. I just want something to get me through the year in terms of gameplay because Im going to build a Vista rig at the end of the year.

can't get another motherboard because Im using the onboard SATA RAID... I dont want to lose my system and I don't have a backup drive...

( my next system is going to have a dedicated RAID card so I can just move that to the other system)
 
by the way... I almost did something very very bad last night...

in thinking about this I loaded up a cart at newegg with $700 worth of UPGRADES. new case, power supply, processor, memory... about to click that button with the newegg preferred account... I was VERY VERY close...
 
Sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your M0. My 2.4C is an M0 and runs at 3.3 at stock voltage.

Another option you could look into is trying to find a processor in the FS/FT section that somebody allready knows the max overclock of. You may find a 3.0C that can run at 3.6-3.8.
 
by the way I can run the ram at 1:1 to 235 FSB... after that at put in at a 5/6 divider...it seems that nothing I can do can bring that thing higher...
 
I see you have an IC7-G, I had a few problems when getting my 2.4C stable. Here's some things you can try.

1) Make sure the BIOS is up to date, I had alot of problems with the earlier releases.
2) Set GAT to the default settings, I couldn't overclock that thing at all with that on.
3) Raise your latencies, probobly ram specific but couldn't hurt, mine are maxed out at 3-4-4-8.
4) Even though the ram isn't overclocked very much, raise the voltage to 2.65 or 2.7v.
 
the only thing I hadn't done is raise my ram voltage... but when running at a divider it is still under 200fsb.
 
anyway... I was asking what kind of perf I can get out of adding a 3.2 pressy and 2 gigs of ram... will my framerates noticibly go up? anyone have this setup with fear? just wondering if I should do this or just shell out for a x360...

I would say *NOT* drastically, maybe anywhere from 5 to 15 *MAX*. If you want better framerates for the same price, and for gaming, you're better off switching to AMD, maybe a SD Core 3700+, or you can wait and see what the Conroe brings...

switching to AMD entails getting a new mobo and video card and then wasting all the data on my raid... not an option at this point... but in 8-10 months I will be looking to build a new High end system... I will see then. I just want to know if this is good or not...
 
I went from a 2.4 p4c @ 3.0ghz
to a 3.2 p4c @ 3.7 ghz....there is a noticable difference...but it isn't like night and day...maybe 10-20 percent faster.

Like....maybe....just a guess.....23.333% faster? :)
 
im now running a stable overclock at 3.2ghz... 1.625 volts are required though...
 
i'm thinking the same thing here.. my current rig is 2.6C at 3.2C stable w/ 1:1 250FSB

i'm thinking of going pressy 3.2E and oclock to 3.5E just to tide me over till new gen proc.. comes out..

will this be worth the upgrade or should i just stick w/ 3.2C? (btw, been running this cpu at 3.2C for over 3 yrs now^^)
 
I was running a 2.6c at 2.6 and my upgrade to a 3.2e was noticable but far from dramatic. I'm glad I made the change and would do it again, but it probably wasn't worth the $217 I paid. Oh well, everyone has to waste money sometime.
