I have the MSI P880 NEO motherboard, I am going to buy either the

2.80A P4 with 533 Bus or 2.80E P4 with 800 Bus. Both are almost the same price, Support HT and prescott core.

I am thinking the 533 version will be better to O/C, any other comments / suggestions?

I cant seem to see any other differences !!

The 2.80A doesnt support HT, and wont see performance as good as the 2.80E when overclocking (and at stock) due to the lower FSB. Both should hit about the same speed.

What aboout the 2.8C? It has HT, 800 Mhz bus, and has 9 less stages on the pipeline than the E. It would certainly be a better performer.

it was a local shop and my pc died, I needed one today as I was only left with my old Duron 650.....

The local shop is as cheap as online so it was just very convenient.

Seriously if you get a 2.8E instead of the C, you will notice a significant performance drop. you would have to oc the E probably up to 3.2 or so to see the performance of the C. Wait a couple of days, and get the 2.8 C. it will be worth it... trust us.

I even did some work for you

There would be a slight performance drop, but I'm not sure it would even be noticable.

Remember the 1.4 Tatulan P3's versus the early 1.7 P4?

Yeah there was a big difference there

Thanks for the link, but I live in the UK so its no use :(

Got the 2.8E, currently running rock solid at 3.0, tried above and my dvd drawer open v slowly, got a better PSU on order !!

This is my first HT CPU and I am suprised to say I can actually tell a difference. If I set a serious CPU intensive task running, ie encoding a DVD, I can still use the PC where before it was so slow as to be unusable when doing something like that.

Appreciate the comments.

Get a better PSU, and overclock even further. You will be able to get better performance than a 2.8c if you overclock enough.
