Heya,
I got a Intel P4 2.6c Im looking to overclock on a Asus P4P800 Deluxe MOBO. It still has the basic cooling for the CPU and Ive added a case fan, in the process of finding a good mount spot for the second case fan. I dont want to spend a ton of money on water cooling, but I also dont want my system overheating all the time so I cant use it and it wont last as long. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

Get a good overclocking heatsink and you'll be set. Either a Thermalright SP94 or a Zalman 7000.

The place I buy from doesn't have any Thermalright SP94's, but it does have a few different versions of the 7000. So I'll look into those.

Don't worry about not having money for a wc setup. Intels overclock quite nicely on air.

Is it ok to OC it abit without upgrading the heatsink right now? say from 2.6 to liek 2.8 or something?

You can overclock with the retail heatsink. It won't overheat your cpu.

Yeah stock intel fans arn't usually too bad for most things...nothing extreme or anything...but small oc's are usually ok.

The intel heatsink should work fine for moderate overclocking, but make sure your case has adequate airflow.

Ya my case as fairly good airflow, will be better when I add the second case fan in. Now I just need to find a good tutorial for OC'in a 2.6 with a Asus P4P800 Deluxe board

if you have good airflow (~60cfm in and ~50 cfm out, or more) then you should be able to get at least 3.5 or 3.6 with a CNPS7000A-Cu i know a guy who got his 2.8c to 3.54 with a 7000A-Cu

i have a 2.6 and p4p800deluxe also with one 120mm case fan, ive gotten it to 3.1 stable on prime 95 for 12 hours

w00t. Alight its at 3.1ghz right now, not overly hot, had it hotter before, running prime right now, lets see how long it lasts for :p. Whats recommended max temp i should let it get to?

Alight its at 3.1 ghz and Ive been running prime for awhile, seems to be a constant 61c, that too high?

very high... considering how low the p4p800 registers temperatures.

Well doing my usual, un-intense tasks lets my cpu idle at aroudn 38-44c, not bad, Ill prob clean the heatsink and fan when I manage to get them off the computer and when my PSU gets replaced, hopefully the hot air from the psu will bring the temps down abit

Ok, i have the 2.6 as you do. I could get to go to 3.2 but 61C is hot as hell. I think Intel CPU's throddel at 70C.
However now that i have the SP-94 and 92mm tornado and run at 3.25GHz my load temps are down to 45-48C and idle at 37-39C.

Also, did your stock heatsink come with one of those crap thermal pads on the bottom? If so whipe that shit off and put some Arctic Silver 5 and that should help a tad.

61C is hella high. The highest my temp has ever been is 63C and that was when i took off the fan and let the CPU run 100% load for 10 minutes.

Also remember that the higher your Core Voltage is the higher your temps will be...

Ok well mine seems to idle around 36-45 right now and load is lookin to be around 55 or so. I also havent changed my core voltages, so unless the board di it automatically when I choose to OC it, I haven't touched them.

my 2.4@3.4 Has been running with basically the same temps as you for the past month, 61C load

i may upgrade HSF though, not sure

Im overclocking my 2.6c as well, rite now im at 2802, is it ok for me to go to 3.2 OC? I got 6 fans in my comp i usually run them at medium speeds, idle temp is 45 celius, prime95 torture load + games at same time = 57 celcius

Quicksilver I have almost the same setup as yours except I have:

IS7 (original)
512MB Kingston HyperX PC3700 RAM
ATi Radeon 9700Pro AIW

Anyways I can crank my FSB only to 224 (1:1).

After that shit starts to crash, even with higher voltages and if I use a crappier divider like 5:4 I can hit 3.2 GHz but Prime95 will produce errors, but it is still stable enough for 3dmark and gaming, but I'm not sure how reliable it still is.

Temps hit all the way up to 68.5C (stock Intel HSF), but it still ran fine.

Well I got mine up to 3.1ghz right now. Been runnig FAH for the last few hours (50% CPU work + whatever else im dong) and its been around 55c, i idle around 45, all still on stock intel hsf, temps might be abit better when i get another case fan in
