Do you think we're going to see a 2.5 terabyte hard drives in 2010?

They have to use the GPT, and the motherboard has to be EFI if you want to boot off it.

So maybe manufacturers are waiting till EFI becomes more wide spread? XP also does not support GPT.

It could be couple of years before they release a 2.5TB IMO.
 
Probably we'll see 2TB disks with 3x666GB-per-platter generation first. 2TB is kind of a boundary as its at the limits of 32-bit partition addressing; as you pointed out you need GPT and booting off GPT still does not work if i understand correctly?

With these limitations, HDD manufacturers may be more keen on getting production cost down on the 2TB drives; which is a nice size i think.
 
I'd be more impresses with 2TB drives in a 2.5" form factor...and then in an SSD.

Man, I`ll be happy when the 160gb SSD is affordable. I haven't had an OS / App drive larger than that ever, so I think that is more important than having 2.5TB for storage.

Although HDs are moving in those directions.. media server storage, and faster. So we probably will see mech drive size increasing rapidly as well as SSD advancement.
