2.5" vs. 3.5"

Hello lads!

I need extra storage for my ITX build as 256GB SSD proved to not be enough.
I was thinking of buying a Seagate Momentus XT 750GB 2.5" because then I will not have to do any modding to my computer. I will if I go for a 3.5" due to lack of space.

Are there any cons in using a 2.5" over a 3.5" in terms of speed and if so, is it noticable?

I would have OS and primary games on the SSD and other games, recordings, etc. on my Seagate Momentus XT 750GB.

Last question, can anyone vouch for Seagate Momentus XT 750GB or would another disk be better? :)

Yours sincerely,

Typically, you just don't get as much frills, variety, or options when comparing a 2.5" vs. 3.5" desktop models. With that being said, if you are using the HDD for storage while the SSD for the main items, I'd go with the biggest you can find which would be 1TB+.

With a few exceptions, SATA 3.5" HDD's will be significantly better performance wise than 2.5". But if you're just using it for storage, and will be doing most of the work on the SSD, than there should be nothing wrong with using a 2.5" drive. Size, noise and heat advantages are worth something too.

The thing is that I'm having a FT03-mini chassis and I'd like to take use of the disk tray as I'm not using it for anything at the moment and I've been told you can get a "holder" which you can mount a 2.5" HDD/SSD in and replace it with your disk tray in for example laptops. Should work the same for this chassis hopefully! :)

I was looking at a WD Velociraptor but I think I'll be taking a Seagate Momentus XT 750GB as it should be enough space and it's like half the price.
