Hi There,

I'm looking to build a NAS box out of a Mini-ITX server board and about 12 SSDs.

So I'm looking for a small case that either can accomodate 12 x 2.5" disks or 2 x 5.25" slots for IcyDock.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!!

That sounds neat and all...but how would you get all the performance out of that as a NAS? Even one SSD is capable of fully saturating a gigabit ethernet connection, not sure why you'd put 12 in a box

With that said, two options come to mind with some adapters:

LIAN LI PC-Q25B
3.5" Drive bay x 7 ( Hot swap x 5 ) Internal 3.5" Drive Bays

Lian Li PC Q26
3.5" HDD x10 (Hot-Swap x2)
2.5" HDD x1

Are there even any ITX mobos that have 12 sata3 ports? All I could find was an AsRock AMD with 7.

Thr smallest I could think of is using an Icy Dock 8 x 2.5 bay in a CM elite 120 with the remaining 4 drives in the cages.

Wait... you're storing SSDs, not hard drives?

Stick hot glue or duck tape in between them, slap the whole thing inside some miniature case, and you're golden...

I use double sided tape, but I was looking for some better off the shelve solution.

I was thinking of something like Rosewill RS-MI-01, but this one doesn't seem to have 2 x 5.25" bays. Does anyone know something similar size and shape but with 2 x 5.25" bays?

You'll have to go for an mATX case for that. BTW, are you planning on buying SSDs as you need them or all at once?

Probably something like this.

yeah i have several of those, you'd have to bend the wires like crazy to get the connectors close enough... doubt its even possible.

to put a bunch of ssds together you'd almost need something solid, a single connector with multiple plugs. never seen anything like that

Or you could do something like this but with much smaller gaps between the connectors.
