2.5" SATA drive question

Is it possible to use a laptop SATA hard drive with SATA cables from a desktop system? I know you have to use a converter for IDE, is it the same with SATA?

2.5 sata drives use standard sata power and data connectors. I'm using one as my OS drive in my HTPC.

For SATA 2.5" disks, you should be fine just plugging in the desktop PSU connectors fine, they use the same standard connectors whether it is a 2.5" disk or a 3.5" disk.

For IDE 2.5" disks, they are slightly different and would require a converter.
