Hey, I have a 533mhz 2.5 Northwood. Right now I am running at 2.8 and am trying to get to 3.0. My temps are really good @ 2.8, at or less then 85F(30C) while idle and always under 105F(sorry I don't like C ;) ) . I do only have 2700 ddr and using the asus overclock it is very unstable at 3.0. Do you all think the ram is holding me back(@ 3.0 the ram is running at 3200), or should I actually spend the time to manually tweak and maybe get it stable. I would really like to get to 3.2 but 3.0 is the first hurdle. BTW, @ 3.0 it passes memtest, but failed prime95 very quickly, but has no problems. at 2.8. Should I try to loosen the CAS on my ram? @ 2.8 my bus is running 588.

If it fails prime but passes memtest it is most probably ( never can be certain) the cpu have you tried using 5:4 3:2 divider ? also have you increased the Vcore ?
edit: I would spend the time to manual tweak it yourself the Asus overclock is iffy :D

Ok, I went in and did it manually. 160 FSB = 3.0. Still unstable. Tried to bump up the vcore alittle, no boot :( . Although, I can not find the divider setting in this BIOS .

EDIT: Also, how the heck did you get your 9800 pro so high and stable.

Also tried locking AGP/PCI back, still no go.
EDIT: Also don't think it is the PSU. Don't really see a voltage drop when p95 runs.

Luck I guess it has the 360 (xt) core oh and I put a thermatake volcano 10 on it. ( not voltage mods yet.. :p ) I have heard the the xt core sucks for overclocking but seams ok certainly not grounbreaking though .edit just read your sig 490 core well don't i look silly 460 memory are sure it not 390/360 ?

The computer, while unstable, also just feels slower at 3.0. Prime95 fails early in the first test. Maybe my CPU just can't take it.

LOL, yeah sorry just made sig. 390/360, havn't really tried to go further.

BTW, memory timings are 2.5-4-4-8(crappy ram :) )
