as the above 'equation' states, what memory should i be looking at to overclock this sucker? i am running stock cooling on a abit ic7-max3 board.

thanks again.

IT DEPENDS!

depends on the chip.

If it clocks to about 3Ghz... 250FSB. You could use DDR500 with the 1:1 ratio or DDR400 with 5:4 ratio. Both give you about the same performance since the DDR500 has lax timings and the DDR400 should have tight timings.

I think its best to just get some good PC3200 (DDR400) or PC3500 with tight timings and use whatever ratio you have to as you keep going up. Dont bother with that expensive stuff like PC4000, etc.

For example, I'm using the 3:2 ratio and my ram is only at DDR400 but Im still getting almost 6000MB/s on sisoft.

PC3200 is the bang/buck.
Just get some good CAS2 dual channel paired stuff like Kingston HyperX or Corsair XMS.

Ummmm what PC4000 chips run at CAS 2.5?

OCZ & Geil are the only ones that I know of...

2 possible problems with them PC4000:
1. expensive...
2. some high speed memory wont run at ratios... BUT if you happen to get a good chip like me... you will definitely need to use a ratio to reach 300 FSB and then your ram might not work with ratio.

Good point. I'm running GEIL PC4000 Golden Dragon. It's relatively cheap for PC4000, and runs at CAS 2 (!) at 228 mhz. That's not bad at all. It sure beats trying to run down BH-5.
