2.4 Prescott or 2.6 533?

I have one of each. Been running the 2.4 Prescott a while with no trouble. A working 2.6 p4 just fell into my lap. I use my box mostly as a DAW but I do game. WoW and EQ2. Would I see a gain in performance with the 2.6 or would it be a tie because of the difference in cache size?

Well, the 2.6 is a northwood and the 2.4 is a prescott. Although the prescott has a larger cache, it needs it due to its longer pipeline. So, I think the 2.6 would be faster. Even a 2.4ghz northwood is faster than a 2.4 prescott in almost everything. It is not until very high clockspeeds that a prescott can catch up with a northwood.

The 2.6 will run much cooler as well.

Thanks for your opinion. I was thinking the same thing, but needed to read it before getting up the energy to install the thing
