I have been looking for a speaker setup, 2.1 as I do not have a lot of space and I will be going to college later in the year. I was wondering what are good choices for 2.1 speakers that are UNDER $50. At my local Office Max there are Logitech Z-340's and Logitech X220's. What are the difference between these two? Any other brands/recommendations are welcome too as long as they stay under $50. Thanks!

Set the 340's up on a co-worker's PC. They're very impressive for the size/price, and the right sat has that stylish blue LED. :D

The specs on the other's look pretty good for the money, but I haven't heard them so I'll not comment.

Now, I know you specifically stated UNDER $50, but hear me out. I just picked up a 2.1 setup from CompUSA that is pretty amazing for ~$50. Look at the online price very closely, further research the price on the web, read the reviews, then haul your ass to CompUSA and pick up the EV SonicXS 2.1's for half a Franklin. Seriously. Go now.

They're not the most stylish 2.1 set on the market, but pretty is as pretty does and these things sound GREAT, especially for the money.

Not the most stylish?
They're easily the ugliest computer speakers I can recall seeing!

They do sound good, and $50 is an excellent price for them.

Heh. I was trying to be nice! :p

They kinda have that EV/Fender/Peavey industrial look to them (for obvious reasons). I've definitely got to get a blue LED in the right sat and flat-black that big-assed "SonicXS" sticker on the left one. They'll still be homely, though. :D

Good thing they work so well.

I just got new speakers (z560s). I went to compusa and played with those EV sonics for like a hour. I couldnt belive the sound that came out of these. It filled the store with music. I walked away with them turned mostly up and could hear them from dam near the other side of the store. I was going to buy them, but decided on a surround sound set. If i needed 2.1 for 50$ these would win, hands down. Unless you buy something used, like Promedia's or something. No way you going to get them for 50$ unless they damage or something. Check them out online, if you can stand the looks, they are your best choice.

Not to mention, these retail for 199.99 and being sold at 49.99....thats a good deal.

On my old 640's i had to put a piece of tape to cover that blue power on LED. My center was at eye level and it was soooo bright it burned a permenant blue spot on my right eye =)

FYI, I'm going back to CompUSA this evening and getting another EV 2.1 set. 4.2 gaming, anyone? :D

hahahah thats another awesome idea.....4.2 for 100$ can that be beat?

How would the sub sound with audio coming from the rear channel on your sound card?

Not sure, but I can't wait to find out. If the subs get in each other's way, I'll just turn the rear one all the way down. If they don't conflict, I'm putting the rear sub right under my chair! :D

hahhah that awesome.....Put a sub in the bottem of the chair and market it as a RUMBLE CHAIR.

I don't see what's so bad about the look of the EV Sonics. I was all dead set on getting one of the used Promedia 2.1's when they came in, but when I saw these in the store I grabbed two of them up. They are a tad bit HUGE, but in the right setting they are hardly even noticeable.

Just hook them up as if you had a 4.1 set up, theres no seperate SUB channel that way, hook on set into the front jack and the other set into the rear jack and you have 4.2, set both to full volume and get a keyboard with volume controls so you won't have to adjust both sets everytime you change volume.

I have a set of Altec Lansing ATP-3 speakers and have been very impressed with them. They will rattle the windows with ease and the left/right speakers have a small footprint to fit into those tight spaces. They still sell them even though they been out for a couple years, I think they run about $50-60 at Best Buy.
