2.1 Floor Speaker Setup

I forget, don't you already have a receiver? Did you find out for sure how it behaves in 3.1 operation? (Practically - is the $1300 completely devoted to getting two towers and a subwoofer shipped?)

Yes i have a receiver. 3.1 worked out perfectly. This would be for just the speakers.

Can get the Arros for about $700 used.

6moons seems to think highly of them...and with that large a budget, I would absolutely be looking into used equipment to further stretch your buying power. Their main complaint is the one I was worrying about when I saw them on Totem's site...it's strongly limited by the air displacement of that single 4.5" woofer.

Not by way of a specific kneejerk recommendation, but you can get these new from AV123 for $1400. And that's new not used, without major searching. Many towers even just use a two woofer config...you probably won't get into the better line array speakers for that (but maybe some of the cheaper ones, or used...), but I would need some serious convincing to believe a single 4.5" dynamic woofer can keep up physically no matter how well it's made.

These are well under budget and give me giggles...basically, you're not into the seriously expensive stuff, but your budget is high enough that there are some more non-traditional options.

I think your budget is also high enough that you may want to start giving serious thought to doing things to improve the room acoustics. $1300 speakers can still sound like crap if something is pushing down on the quality elsewhere.

I think the 760 is the 750 update, but their site is down for nightly maintenance so I can't check detailed specs. The 750 shows up as a retired product in Google's cache.

The Rockets are monsters. I have heard all of the Totems and they can't keep up with the Rockets for HT.

For music? At low levels with a good setup? Totem sounds really good.

If you want to ROCK!!! The 760s will flat out kill.

Hell, the 450s are great. I have the 550s and they sometimes make me feel like my chair is lifting off lol.

The Rockets are also pretty, if you let visuals influence your sound choices significantly. :D

Can I assume the AV123 Rocket 750s are up to par with the 760s?

Greetings!
As a Sales Rep for AV123 I hope you dont mind me jumping in since our speakers were mentioned.
The 760 is indeed the upgrade to the 750 and comparing them to the 850 the main difference will be musical performance.
The 850 features a mid range driver not present in the 760/750 that puts it a step above the 760s when it comes to music. I normally recommend the 850 as one of our best 50% HT 50% Music speakers.
I own 760s in my dedicated HT Room and love them and they are VERY good for music so dont take me wrong....in this case I comparing them to the 850s.
Another speaker I love is the X-Statik...in my opinion its performance for HT and Music is very close to the 850s. In fact the sound, due to its open baffle design, is more organic or even natural to my ears.
It doesnt have the dynamic capabilities of the Rockets (not many speakers can do that) but they still can play loud without strain. I would look into them as a Great alternative and that would save you some money as well. ;)

It depends on how much you want to spend and what your expectations are. We just started a new promotion on the big boy we sell, the MFW15 where you can get two of those for $1250 plus get a $251 gift certificate for your next purchase. Normally a single Black MFW15 goes for $699 so thats a smokin' deal.
If you dont need two maybe you can team up with a friend. :)

Awesome! I didn't know you surfed the [H].

I like to try and find out what products I want before I figure out what I want to spend. The biggest problem I have is finding a sub that is small enough to fit into my room. So two may be too much.

We might still have an x-sub in b stock. Its small and goes down to about 27hz in room at -3db. Other than that we are working on some stuff but it will take a while.
Some others might be able to offer more suggestions. :)

You don't really need a sub with those for music. For HT it helps but my 550s hit pretty damn hard down to about 42hz by themselves. I have a 12" sub I turn on occasionally when the wife is away lol.

So I'm seriously considering a used pair of Rocket RS850, but I think they might be overkill for my room. It's only 13x10x8.

How well would these speakers do in a small room? I'd have them paired with my Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K. Again I'd use them for music/movies/gaming.

I'd probably add a AV123 center and a sub. Is that necessary too?

Overkill is fun.

You don't need a center and sub (for the center, the smaller air mass & speaker overkill helps mitigate, for the sub the multi-woofer config does), but they're nice to have.

It looks like a bit of satire at the expense of the "magic cables" trend.

Oh, right. The 2 ft long cable made out of pure gold, platinum and silver coated with 16 other extremely expensive metals, on ebay for $40,000. That one.

Silver does conduct electricity slightly differently than copper does, which is why for large scale commercial video use you'll see silver instead of copper cables...silver costs about 7 times more than copper...lol but for $40,000 you should be getting about 12,000 feet of 10-gauge silver cabling.

As far as the speakers...spaceman, you really get around don't you. To the OP: the Totems have an extremely tipped midrange, which should help for anything requiring voices...movies definitely, gaming with narration (MGS4...lol).
