2.1 advice

I listen to all kinds of music, in a relatively small environment, a dorm room. I was wondering, would it stress my monitors too much to play the LF signals as well as imaging the HFs. I have a pair of BX8A's coming in. I just think adding the BX10s would be hardcore overkill... Any advice would be great.

I currently have a creative gigaworks 7.1 system and the bass that sub produces is all I need, if that serves as a reference.

Also anyone with these, please tell me what your experience has been like

Those speakers cant produce the lower frequencies that a sub can.
They go down to 40Hz which isnt bad for a small speaker, but they are just that, small speakers.
If you like your bass to be deep, use a sub as well or get good larger speakers for the next best thing.

I use floor standers with a 35Hz cutoff and a REL sub, matched to the floor standers cutoff.
Bass isnt redirected but is fed to all speakers.
awesome :D

Are you unhappy with the sound of the S750?
Is there reason you bought the BX8's and are interested in the BX10's?

The response curve of the S750 does not demonstrate a true audible/feelable frequency response down to 25Hz.
XBit labs found the response was 31Hz @ -33dB!!! (approx)
They didnt state that but by looking at the graph, that is the figure! (see the following: )

It looks to me like the creative S750 responds down to 50Hz with ease and then sound pressure drops sharply.

The question is will the BX10's give you the low end grunt you are after when comparing to the Creative S750 and will you prefer the sound?
The BX10's are specced down to 40Hz, this should be the -3dB or -6dB point depending on how M Audio like to pass us information.
This may or may not be better than the Creative sub, its not possible to tell from the specs we have.

I am unable to find any reviews of the BX10 but as they are studio monitors, its reasonable to assume the specs are somwhat realistic for bass response down to 40Hz.
Its what happens below 40Hz that is of interest and that we dont know.

Speaker positioning counts for a lot but seeing as you have a small room, I imagine the bass is quite strong.

I have major issues with the creative system, or sub more specifically. It has failed on me three times now, at almost exact one year intervals. I made my voice known to creative by contacting the regional PR director of THX to complain that the system was not in deservance of a THX badge. They paid to send it back and sent me an entire new system free, and then again a year later. Now it has happened again and I just do not want to bother. I escalated my case to the creative tech manager and they are going to pay freight to ship the entire system back to them as I do not want to throw them away or sell them. The sub is blown, but it does not sound bad, no fluttering sounds etc, just cannot hit the lows and at certain frequencies just does not resonate.

I've grown up around nothin but McIntosh equipment so I know the most important variable when it comes to audio equipment protection is the quality of the source. Everything I play is 320kbit mp3 or lossless format 44100 joint stereo, or dvd dts/dolby tracks from a creative audigy 2zs soundcard. I can close my eyes and identify a B&W from a McIntosh, a Meridian from an Angstrom... Who knows how many speakers I have auditioned over my years of visits to the home theater store... Its just time to move up quality wise and thats why I want these.

If anyone wants the S750 system.... and wants to pay freight. Let me know. The sub is blown, but not to the point where it makes harsh flutter sounds or anything like that, just cant go low anymore. Maybe its just the crossover I don't really know. RMA service would be 40.

I see.
Can you audition the BX10's and compare them to other speakers for low end response?

It does sound like the crossover is at fault on the sub.
If creative are willing to replace it, let them! :D

Im a freshman in college at UT austin so there is nowhere aroung here that sells equipment like this. I'm going on three basic assumptions:

It is a higher RMS sub
It is a larger sub
It has a lower attained frequency response

:p

UPDATE

The BX8A's sound absolutely amazing. It is incredible, truely. For the price they are more dynamic than I was expecting and the response across the band is worth the audtion. Check them out if you are in the market for some monitors. The BX10s comes in tommorow. Im a little more than excited haha

wicked :)
I might have to audition some if I can get them over here (UK).
The reports I've read are quite glowing.
