Are there any inexpensive rack mount wireless access points available? Just to use for my laptop. I have seen the Cisco Aironet (I think that's right) but those that I have seen are not rack mountable.

so you want to put your access point in a rack and have the antenna's out the back?

most AP's are meant to be ceiling/wall mounted (if enterprise) or desktop models (home market)

Most racks would probably block/reflect signal enough to make it a pain to use.

Got you. I just wanted it for use at home som I can cleanly install it into my lab. I guess I will just grab one of the cisco ones.

I was just going to suggest that. At some point I would like to grab one of their WAPs just to play around with.

If the WAP is designed to mount to the ceiling, you could probably rig it to mount to the side of the Skeletek rack.

symbol makes wireless ap that you can rack mount circuit city has them in each store.

You are talking about a wirleess controller, not the AP itself.

AP's are mounted throughout the store, controller is in the rack.

if that's what you are looking for, then cisco has one, it's kinda pricy though, cheapest rackmount is over 6g's for 12 access points. The 25 AP one i just purchased cost 9 grand for the hardware, 3 grand for the 1 year support and 2300 for the wireless control software to do all the tracking tricks. Woo hoo cisco wallet rape.

Thats what im working on right now. Converting our WLAN from WLSE/WLSM to WISM/WCS. 50% of my APs are 1200s and guess what... thin client code will not support older version of the "a" radio card. Now I need to hit up 20 locations across the state and replace the damn "a" cards in order to get this deployed. And what do I get out of this? RF firewall feature which I am no longer excited about.

Honestly if it's just so you can access the network with your laptop.... grab *any* WAP/Router and stick it on top of your top most router/switch in your rack.

*shrug*

Since it's just a home lab there isn't much reason not to go with the simple, inexpensive, low tech route.

I think that's what I will end up doing
