I'm looking to buy a 1tb desktop (3.5") hybrid drive from seagate ( http://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-drives/solid-state-hybrid/desktop-solid-state-hybrid-drive/ )

However, I can't find any place that actually sells this drive. Is it not out for wide release yet?

I prefer this over the 1tb laptop (2.5") hybrid drives, but if it's not available do you think using these drives would be okay in a desktop build? Would I just use the same mounting I would use for a standard ssd?

There is no technical reason why a laptop hard drive will not work in a desktop. The negatives are usually lower performance and higher price with the positives being lower power draw.

Laptop drives are fine for desktops, but generally are rated for a certain #(8) of hours per day. Some desktop drives are like this as well. I recall reading on the blue drive data sheet that the drives are made for 8 hours per day for three years.Seagate's desktop drives have a similar power-on hours / yr rating (link)

Many motherboards support a hybrid style of drives, though your older system you may not get this. Desktop users can much more easily use a SSD and a 3.5" HDD in tandem, so there isn't as much market for a 3.5" hybrid.
