1T or 2T timings

Could someone tell me what the difference is between 1T and 2T timings? I have Crucial Ballistix 4000 dual channel 1 gig, AMD64 3000, and Chaintec VNF-4 Ultra, and reccommendations on what settings I should have this on for maximum performance?
 
1T gets about 10% more memory bandwidth on Athlon 64's, its one of the most important timings.

Always try and keep the command rate on 1T if possible, gives much better performance
 
Thanks, so if I set it to 1T, I might be able to push it just a little more then? I get a BSOD at anything over 237mhz on my fsb. Could that help speed it up a little?
 
some board dont overclock past..say... 210Mhz at 1t, liek the ASUS SLI delux... my ASUS seem to go 2 about 255 at 1t, so lucky me...but i dont have the deluxe either..

but yea 1t at all costs... even if it means you have to keep the speed down, the only way i would go to 2t is if it ment i was going to be able to run 300 or more Mhz with it
 
I saw on these forums that some boards just blank out at 210 to 250 MHz on 1T timings, so you could only really get 1T, at higher frequencies of overclocking.
 
1T provides alot more performance. I would always use that, even at the sacrifice of some MHz
 
I noticed on mine that I need at least 80mhz more at 2T to get the same bandwidth using Sandra compared to at 1T.

I thought it was more like 35-40... but I could be wrong.
 
It probably depends on the system. Mine required about 80mhz. Maybe others only require 40. When I find some time, I'll post screenshots.

Are you running Single channel ram? or Dual?
 
I just did some testing and you are right, it takes about 30-40mhz at same timings. I think I was running different timings or something that caused such a large difference.
 
1T vs 2T is the biggest difference!!

CAS is the only other really important one. (cas 2, 2.5, 3)

All of the others, ras, castoras, etc.. are not that important overall.
 
I'd argue that max async latency is crucial to keep low. Going from 7ns to 8ns on that increases my latency score by about 4ns.

Depends on density, quality and # of sticks of ram.

Quality: First and foremost good quality ram will handle tighter timings, etc.. at higher speeds.

Density: higher density sticks (sat 2 x 1Gb+) sometimes require loser timings as you go up in speed more rapidly than say 2 x 256

Quantity: 1 stick works easiest and fastest, 2x, optimal for dual channel, 4x sticks can cause problems on lots of boards, and some board force less aggressive timings when you populate all of the slots. And some won't even boot unless you use 2T, etc..
 
good topic. would overall system perfromance be better with an A642800
2.1 ghz with 1T or 2.5ghz with 2T? The best I can get on 1t is MABYE 240 2T and loose timings give me up to 280 before things get crappy.

You can always use the DDR333 memory divider to keep your memory speed down while you push your bus up so you can keep 1T on.
 
i have 2t command disabled but can have a stable overclock of 280 HTT...maybe i got a freak board ?

you just gotta benchmark for yourself and see.

Though as someone else said try running memory slower (via ratio) and see how your benches are there with 1T.

run the benches at each setting:

sync memory, 1T highest stable OC (2.1Ghz)
sync memory, 2T highest stable OC (2.5Ghz)
async memory, 1T highest stable OC (probably 2.5+ Ghz) - possibly tighter timings too.

And see what you get.
