1st time new build

It looks like that XFX graphics card has DVI-I ports on it, so you should be able to convert that into a VGA with a simple adaptor.

CRTs are pretty nice. Good contrast and colors (assuming you have it set right.) Refresh rate can get pretty high.

There are a few downsides to using a CRT monitor. One is that CRTs (in my experience) cause more eye strain than LCDs. Two is that you'll physically be looking at an 18" viewable area vs. a 23" or 24" area with the other monitors we've recommended. Three is that they're heavy and big (footprint.) Four, and probably the most important downside if you've been using this with no problems in the past, is that you'll be using a 4x3 aspect monitor. I haven't had one of those in awhile, and I worry about modern/future game support, so can anyone else answer if modern games still have a 1600x1200 resolution option?

It was just a thought. I was wondering because if I build this thing and save a little more to get a monitor that will use all the pc can give it, I.E. more expensive monitor maybe. From what I was reading in displays, was there may be new monitors or tech coming out in a month???? maybe something in the $300-400 range. It was just a thought though
 
I haven't checked out the display forum in awhile. There could be something new coming out but in my experience monitors don't usually have the same "revolutionary new performance" that CPUs and GPUs seem to have. But I don't keep up on monitors as much so correct me if I'm wrong.

If new tech comes out in a month, you'll still be buying your components based on your original schedule. Or you could use your CRT for a month or two if you'd feel more comfortable waiting.
 
Yeah new tech will be more than probably $300-$400 anyway, I do want to go look at that ISP you mentioned also, "just because". I wear glasses, so that will effect my viewing unlike the younger set.
 
Had another question.

I have not considered an SSD, I see allot of guy's have them. What if any, is the extra benefit. It makes sense from what I've read, that you just put you're OS on it, but does it really make a $100 difference??

Speeds up your boot times and file access times. Could be useful but I'm not the best guy to explain the technical reasons of why. I need to read up on them more myself.
 
Yeah boot times and access times are decreased significantly with a SSD. Many people report that their system is more response/snappy with a SSD than when they had two drives in RAID 0.
 
Ok, so I would use the SSD for just the Task type programs such as OS, antivirus and the games on the Spinpoint correct?

I was wondering how or what do I need to monitor PC temps?

Is it a program or a seperate piece of hardware and can you give me any recommendations.
