Folks,

I'm planning the first ever rig for myself and would like your thoughts on the psu. The rig, in sketch:

FX55 or oc'd 3500 (winchester)
nForce4 Ultra
1Gig LL PC3200
X850XT
2 x SATA HDD's
2 x Optical

I'm looking for a quiet, modular psu in the neighbourhood of 500W. High quality, longevity (1-2 yrs), and some headroom for future, power hungry cpu/gpu upgrades are also a must. So far, I have identified the Antec Neopower 480 and the Ultra X-Connect 500 as possible choices. Here are some concerns I have with each:

- Neopower: I've read that high A64 models require at least 20A on the 12v rail to be stable. This atx2+ Antec has dual rails with each rail rated at less than 20A. Would this be a problem while using these new nForce4 mobo's? Is there anyone driving an FX55 (or equivalent) system using this psu?

- X-Connect: I gather that this psu, while perfect on paper, has some quality problems. Reading various forums, it appears the initial euphoria over this psu has worn off and it is developing a more mediocre reputation. Any body using this one?

FInally, please feel free to add to my list of candidate psu's. Again, something quiet, modular and high quality around 500W. Price is not a factor.

cheers.

Fair enough :) ... it appears the X-Connect is out. How about the NeoPower's suitability for an A64 rig? Also, any other suggestions for psu's meeting my requirements?

cheers.

The NeoPower will work very nicely in that rig... it shouldn't deserve to be powered by X-Connect, ever.
